Recent photos Ive been taking for my book. Tomorrow since school is canceled Im driving to some areas I havent photographed so more to come soon.

Clarksville, a town of about 15k people, its home to University of the Ozarks, a very small liberal arts college, its just south of the Ozark Mountains in the Arkansas River Valley, about 1.5 hours west of Little Rock. Its downtown is fairly well preserved and even has some new infill, which is pretty strange for a small Arkansas town.

Lark Dardanelle, in the river valley just west of Russellville.

The Illinois Bayou outlet into Lake Dardanelle.

Dardanelle, one of Arkansas original river towns, just south of Russellville in central Arkansas. Its about half latino now and is a fairly small town at 3k people. Theres a Tyson Chicken plant there so thats what attracts the immigrants. Lots of small towns in Arkansas are seeing a huge influx of Latinos.

Potts Inn in Pottsville, just east of Russellville. This is one of the oldest buildings in the river valley region. It was originally built along the Butterfield Overland mail route in 1859, but soon the outbreak of war quickly ended its days as an inn, but somehow its survived to this day.

Dardanelle Rock on the Arkansas River. This was at one time a very important marker on the river for travel back in the mid 1800s.

Abandoned house near the small podunk of London in the river valley region.

One of Arkansas poorest communities, London, located west of Russellville, it has a population of around 400 people.

Morrilton, halfway between Russellville and Conway. It has about 15,000 people I believe, and is a dying town unfortunately.

Conway, a progressive exurb of Little Rock, it has a very lively downtown and is home to one of the nations highest ranked liberal arts colleges, Hendrix College. Its also home to one of the souths most progressive new urban developments, the village at Hendrix.

Clinton, in the Ozark mountains.

The small town of Leslie, in north central Arkansas, the people of this town care very much for its old buildings and have meticulously restored most of the buildings that are left.

Leslie

Marshall, just north of Leslie, its a town of I believe 6,000 or so.

Lost Corner, deep in the Ozarks and far off the beaten path.

Lost Corner, its mostly abandoned now and lies within the national forest.

One of the last remaining families in Lost Corner.

Photos from tonight and the Arkansas Techs Miss Tech.

Downtown Russellville

Last years Miss Tech

This years Miss Tech, she'll go on to compete in Miss Arkansas, and then that goes to Miss America.

Heres some random photos Ive also recently taken.

A tiny town high school basketball game in Dover, north of Russellville. The whole town basically comes to these games. Its like that in small towns all over America, a high school has a baseball, football, basketball game and the whole town shuts down.

Arkansas Tech softball game today.

Switching gears, this is Stuttgart, way out in eastern Arkansas.

Crossett, almost to the Louisiana border in the south central part of the state.

One of Arkansas largest, but yet, most rapidly dying towns, Pine Bluff.

Dismantling a beautiful old bridge over the Mississippi near Lake Village in extreme south eastern Arkansas.

Heres all the places Ive covered now and next month Im renting a Cesna and flying down over the Ouachita Mtns and doing a whole bunch of aerial photography around that area, its going to be kick ass.

Photos from yesterdays pro abortion rally, which occurred after the pro union rally in Little Rock which had 150 people at it, pretty big for this city.

Behind the capitol, thats University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Center, they are rapidly expanding and building a few new towers right now.

Ola, right on the north edge of The Ouachita Mtns, its a dying town.

Just got a new lens today, went out and did some shooting in Clarksville, Atkins, and up to the Ozarks.

Downtown Clarksville, just west of Russellville.

Atkins, a rail town east of Russellville, its about 3500 people.

Hagarville, up in the Ozarks north west of Russellville.

Dover, a town of maybe 3000 people north of Russellville, just south of the Ozark Mountains.

Some photos Ive taken in the past week.

Fort Smith

Near Mt Magazine in west central Arkansas.

This is the oldest surviving bridge in the state north of Conway in central Arkansas. It was built around 1875 and I recently learned that it will be completely restored after being abandoned since the early 90s.

Some little podunk near Oklahoma called Mansfield.

The oldest still in use bridge in the state near that oldest bridge. It was built during the 1890s.

Waldron, near the border with Oklahoma.

An abandoned church or school near Mt Magazine in the national forest.

This is the smallest train station Ive ever seen in New Blaine west of Russellville.

Pottsville just east of Russellville

Van Buren, north of Ft. Smith, its one of the most beautiful main streets in the state.

Dang I wish photobucket wasn’t effed, I’ve lost all of these photos almost 9 years ago before I started backing them up online. I had backed them up on an external hard drive and that got corrupted too. Live and learn. Since then I back up my photos on tons of differing sources.

Past 10 years or so I have backed up all my RAW files onto a 640GB drive. Did you use the external drive for anything other than backup? I never plugged in drive for any reason other than transferring files and it still works.

It would suck to lose all my photos, but they are not nearly as beautiful as yours so I'm not sure it worth to worry more. These photos aren't just beautiful but they are also not common subject. To go to Arkansas and into the countryside is not exactly convenient and you show a lot of personality of the place. I wish I had at least seen them before the watermark.
