FWIW, this was a great Towers article (cheers, Max Tower!) -- not only hq renderings but good context for us laymen about why heights are what they are in that part of the city.

The pics really helped clarify what they're doing with the vertical stripe look. There's more differentiation between this thing and, say, 70 Rainey than I could first see.

I just wish the brick went farther up than the first floor... It reminds me of the Van Zandt where they have this awesome black brick, that only goes up for 3 floors then turns to stucco...

... another note. They also dealt well with the south side which could easily have been a blank wall. Not sure if the florist building , which I love will get historic designation... though we will try. They building with the boot should, if it doesn't;t already .. I'll check.

The site plan was posted to the city's AULCC page. The elevations start on page 36, but they haven't released the whole PDF yet, so no elevations just yet.

Sorry if this is already common knowledge, but, who is the operator of this hotel?

Hasn't been announced yet.

Well, now we know.

Looking at city documents is how we find out about a lot of stuff on here.

I'm sorry to say... if that is indeed the brand... I'm disappointed. We had hoped for something more "special". That's not even and interesting Hilton brand.
Rats.

Something else I noticed in that first link I posted, it includes a set of elevations with the tower crane over the building. The elevations show the building at 230 feet 2 inches to the top of the mechanical penthouse. The floor count is 18 floors as we had read before from the design commission PDF, but the height was simply posted as 220 feet in the document. We haven't actually seen any elevations yet, until now.

Maybe once the site plan is approved and released we'll see if they updated the elevations there.

Yeah I agree. An HGI in that spot is just dumb. There's already a lot of Hilton brand stuff going on in that corridor (Doubletree Suites, Hampton Inn) and there's really no good business reason for a franchiser to try to pile on and cannibalize the Hilton Honors business in the area.

Also, the HGI brand itself is really vanilla -- for downtown tourist districts and suburban highway interchanges. The potential for something with a little more flavor at this corner is pretty obvious. Sad that they're going cookiecutter instead.

Here's the elevation showing the 230' height and crane placement.

Here's proof of mediocre hotel operator.

Site plan was posted to AULCC page. The elevations are on pages 29 and 30.

ftp://ftp.ci.austin.tx.us/ATD_AULCC/...GS_PLAN_03.pdf

The 230 foot height we saw on the tower crane plan is correct, but you have to measure from the loading dock, which drops 4 feet below the rest of the site elevation.

230 feet to the mechanical roof parapet

220 feet 8 inches to the mechanical roof slab

207 feet 8 inches to the MEP. I take this as being the "mechanical room level" that is enclosed by the mechanical penthouse. It lists it as "level 19". The space would be unoccupied and would be only for mechanical uses.

191 feet 8 inches to the amenity level - this is effectively the main roof and top floor. This is the outdoor roof deck.

175 feet 8 inches - this would be the highest hotel room floor.

This one is golden. The tower crane permit was filed about a week ago.

The site plan was approved and released. The July groundbreaking appears to be on schedule.

The 230' height ended up being the final height. The approved & released elevations are on pages 32 & 33:
