Note that the sf for Permit Type #1 (Office / Lobby?) is now just shy of 1,000,000 sf. Isn't some big tech company rumored to be looking for 1,000,000 sf?

I'm hoping tomorrow is the day that we get an update about the project.

The Plan Review went into formal review last Friday, and it is usually not too long after that when project specifics are made public. I've also noticed that Fridays seem to be busier than most days when it comes to the City updating development permits.

Tomorrow? I'm really curious about this - particularly the museum part.

Still nothing. It's now "any day."

We don't know. It is mentioned in the description of the new filing. I want to know what museum it is and how big it is. This site was once going to be the home of AMOA (now The Contemporary) as early as the 1980s. They then scrapped their grandiose plans after the dot.com bust, and tried to do a partnership with the private sector for a 1/2 block museum and 1/2 block office tower. That one fell through as well, and they sold the block to Travis County for the new Courthouse. Public sentiment turned against using such a valuable block for a courthouse (even though that was its original designation in the 1839 Waller plan), and Travis County ground leased it to Lincoln Properties to develop the Republic. I'm wondering if The Contemporary has changed their mind yet again?

Thorough investigative pondering...thanks! Yeah, we definitely need more museums, and a quality one in that location could be cool with the park, rail stop, etc.

The City Library is also nearby and with added retail shopping and restaurants, this area can be the spot to go to downtown before the nightlife happens.

For real. 2nd street & Seaholm are primed to be our entertainment centers for downtown. If only we had a large fancy department store.....

I am so so curious where this museum stems from. I guess it could be The Contemporary finally expanding?

I heard many moons ago that Mexic-Arte was looking to move their museum space off Congress cause they didn't have enough where they were. Just a guess.

Mexic-Arte does have City of Austin bond funding to rebuild their historic building on Congress Avenue, but last I heard they were not able to use the funds at another location. Maybe something changed?

THAT'S how you keep Austin weird. I'd be 100% in favor of something like this.

Having grown up in San Antonio and eaten at a lot of Mexican restaurants, it reminds me of a tortilla warmer.

Surely it's supposed to be something else. Maybe a round cheese grater?

If I recall, it was something to do with the shape of some Aztec symbols.
