You saw it here first folks, but the ABJ has it now.

EDIT: ...and the Statesman.

Seeing this in the Statesman was so depressing. If Texas is so anti-abortion then why is this one happening?

I want to find something good in it. I guess it's good that there will be more parking?

But what IS this thing?

Make it stop.

I love this quote from Jan Buchholz in the ABJ article:

"The 25-story structure appears like a boxy parking pedestal topped by a glassy composition of geometric planes."

Boxy parking pedestal. Ha! She calls it like she sees it.

Well, I suppose there is a quota somewhere for ugly buildings. Mark one off.

Well I'll go out on a limb.
Hope this gets built! I think it has cool potential.
I certainly recall all the hate on the Frost when it was just drawings.
I will give the designers credit.... and see where this lands.
I like the contrast of the top and bottom.
I also like the scale it creates for the office section.
A cool way of looking at a structure. It's breaking down the fuction into differnt aesthetics.

Can't wait to see how it come to fruition!

Should be titled: "New parking garage capped with offices proposed in downtown Austin."

Something about this story - the design sketch, the quotes, the limited info - has me thinking the developer is promoting this to find a buyer, not actually intending on developing the property. Could be wrong. It would be preferable to the surface lot, but that's a pretty low bar.

You lost me, what's a shaggy-ite? But I think you took my general meaning correctly --- "abortion" is sometimes used to describe a catastrophic failure.

I just wrote a tongue-in-cheek trashing of this proposal to their marketing contact. I linked to this thread, in case they haven't seen it. But, as I said in my email, at least it's interesting. If their goal is to get people talking then they're succeeding. But, the Independent and The Proper have both generated at least as much talk, and they did it without taking a dump in the heart of the Warehouse District.

This thread is awesome, if there were an LOL button I'd be clicking it for nearly every comment on the last few pages. I'd single out some of the best comments but they're all too good! And because of that, 405 Colorado is indirectly responsible for causing me to laugh and smile more than any other development downtown, which is a wee bit disturbing.

I'm sorry, I can't stop laughing. Genius. This is going to be my go-to when I feel sad.
