Inn-side scoop: Another day, another Austin hotel breaks ground
Oct 8, 2015, 2:49pm CDT

How many more new hotel rooms can Downtown Austin absorb? Developers apparently believe more are warranted.

JCI Hospitality LLC, an Austin company, broke ground this week on a Hyatt House Hotel at 901 Neches St. in Austin.

The Hyatt House Hotel is projected to deliver 190 rooms by the end of 2016. The location serves visitors to the State Capitol and will be a straight shot down Red River Street from the Dell Medical School when it opens next year.

The Hyatt House Hotel is designed by LK Architecture in Wichita, Kansas — which has designed several area hotels — and encompasses nine floors of hospitality space with four floors of underground parking.

haha, I can see why you forgot, that's about the most forgettable perspective on Austin I've seen in a long time. And I don't mean that as an insult to your photography, it's not your fault that the view from that location is so boring. The Hyatt House, soaring more than a third of the length of a football field into the Texas sky, will totally fix that.

Those are a couple of nice oak trees in Downtown Austin. Really that area has quite a few. Nice to see when architecture preserves/complements that.

It's well underway. You can use the Aloft webcam to zoom in on the site.

It's above ground on the Neches Street side now.

Looking North West from 9th and Red River.

I think it looks better now than it will when it's completed. At least now one can still image something better than a beige/brown box.

I agree with you ATX. A lot of the time I think buildings u/c look cooler than when complete and in this case, the final color is going to suck. But I'll say this, I thought I was going to totally hate this building, but the east side actually looks pretty cool with its two sections. And, this area does need some filler / density. I do prefer this to the Indigo. I hope there's nothing wrong with me, 98.9 on the ear thermometer, so I'm not delirious with fever, don't know what else could cause me to like this building but I kind of do

Just image how the Home2 Suites will look in the lower right corner of this photo. A salute to blandness.
