Over the last few months I have visited various cities across the American South. In this thread I have highlighted my visits to the following cites: Columbia, Durham, Charlotte, Chattanooga and Athens, plus a couple of small towns in Eastern Georgia. I hope ya'll enjoy!

That was an awesome tour! Keep it up!

Columbia, Durham, Charlo, Chatta, Greensboro, Athens, Madison, man you really hit some hot spots!

Was that a passing-by tour or a decent insight (inside) tour? Any chance to shoot the icon skyline of each city? Especially Chatta, hardly to find a real icon skyline shot of it on Internet.

thanks for the tour.

i was happy that a friend's wife got a job in Chattanooga, both for her and for an excuse to go do a proper overnight visit(s).

Durham, Columbia, and Chattanooga are special cities that are often overlooked in favor of bigger cities within their states but each can easily stand on its own. Charlotte speaks for itself. Athens is a quintessential American college town - one of the best IMO.

Each one of these states has a ton of gorgeous small towns that hardly anyone has heard of outside of the area. Glad you got to see a couple of them. Nice thread!

This is by far, the most Chattanooga skyline that can represent Chattanooga skyline.

Man do I love Chattanooga. Such a special little city and only getting better with each passing day. Definitely do not judge it by it's skyline.

Great photos & great cities.

Sadly I've only ever been through ND/SD/MN and Vegas. I'd love to tour the south.

Chattanooga looks awesome.

Fun thread. Some great cities there. Did you get a chance to go up Lookout Mountain?

Thanks for the pics.

Chattanooga kind of sits in a bowl surrounded by Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, and Signal Mountain/Waldens Ridge. The metro population is about 300,000 with Chattanooga proper being 174,000.

Welcome to the forum John! Nice to have a Chatty resident in the fold. I have a lot of family in the area and have a deep love of the city. Just to clarify though, the Chattanooga Metro has 528,143 people as of 2010, and the CSA of Chattanooga currently has 923,460.
