This thread focuses exclusively on one property, a large new hotel and casino complex on The Strip that opened on December 15, 2010. Nearly all these photos are from its first day of operation. The property's neighbors are the Bellagio Hotel and Casino (with its famous fountains) and the residential Jockey Club to the North, the multiple hotel and condo and casino and shopping buildings of the new CityCenter development to the South, and Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino across The Strip. The property consists of a solid three-level podium of lobbies and casino and restaurants and shops and meeting rooms, which covers an underground parking structure. Two different but reasonably related towers for hotel rooms (and some condos but far fewer than originally planned) rise from the podium and add to the increasingly vertical skyline of The Strip. The design architect for the exterior was Arquitectonica, while the interiors were conceived by many different firms. The exterior is mostly cohesive and is a good compliment to the unique modern forms of CityCenter next door. The interior is too complex but most of its components are beautifully-detailed modern environments that are still fun to explore.
Overview:
In the foreground is The Strip and the trees that line the Bellagio fountain walkway and viewing area. The two Cosmopolitan towers dominate this view, while behind them are several of the CityCenter towers.
Towers:
The Eastside Tower is the one closest to The Strip and has a square footprint, while the West End Tower is the longer slab with an angled footprint. Both towers feature balconies, a very rare sight in this city.
Podium Exterior:
The four-level base of the property that faces The Strip has a complex design of angled glazed panels, part of which is topped by the pavilion that houses the Marquee Nightclub.
Boulevard Pool:
The terrace on top of the podium that faces The Strip is a complex of pool and splashplay areas, cabanas, small bars, and lounging terraces. Unfortunately, this pool area and the other two shown later are decorated with fake palms that are not abstractly stylized enough to fit with the sophisticated aesthetic of the other details.
Overlook Grill:
This casual cafe adjoins the Boulevard Pool.
Day Club Pool:
The second pool area is between the two towers and is connected to the Marquee Nightclub and acts as an extension of it at night. It is surrounded by private cabanas with individual spas that view the pool deck.
Bamboo Pool:
The third pool is next to the West End Tower, toward the back of the property, and like the other two it is perched on a terrace on top of the podium.
Valet and Parking Entrance:
The porte cochere is on ground level in the back of the property, inside the podium.
Hotel Registration Lobby:
Inside the podium and adjoining the Valet and Parking Entrance is this check-in hall featuring columns with slowly changing video patterns.
Vesper Bar:
Adjoining the registration lobby and surrounding an escalator that leads up to other levels is this lounge near the casino.
Casino:
Much of the ground floor is dedicated to several large open rooms of gaming.
Queue Bar:
This bar features gaming tables and is part of the casino.
Marquee Nightclub Entrance:
This hallway in the casino leads to elevators up to the podium's terrace where the club is actually located.
Book & Stage:
This bar and lounge is also part of the casino.
Bond:
This is yet another bar and lounge adjoining the casino, and this one has a prime location with windows looking out to The Strip.
The Henry:
The property has many restaurants, but the only one adjoining the casino and on the ground floor is this one.
The Chandelier Bar:
At the heart of the casino is a three-story space that acts as the circulation core for the front of the property facing The Strip. It serves as the entry to the upper levels of the podium that have many shops and restaurants. The space is dominated by this memorable bar that is located on three levels.
Upper Lobby:
Directly above the Chandelier Bar is the top floor of the lobby, which has a rather jarring atmospheric change to a stained glass ceiling. It has several casual game and lounge areas in the midst of the circulation to the restaurants that surround it.
STK:
The most striking of the many restaurants is this one on the third level.
Jaleo:
Another restaurant.
Scarpetta:
Another restaurant.
EatDrink:
A gourmet store.
Wicked Spoon:
The hotel's buffet is further back from the concentration of restaurants in the front of the podium and is similar in style to the meeting room lobbies nearby.
