PVM'S primary fault now is that it no longer acts as a landmark by virtue of it not standing out anymore. Now that its been out-classed in the height department it becomes one in the crowd.

That is true. Though, out of this list, I would say PVM is the only one which has world class architectural merit (whatever the hell that means.)

My favourite (and the most common one) is 'shut/close the lights'.

One of the finest latter day skyscrapers in the country. Along with Tour CIBC, my two favourites in Montreal.

Both are wrong. It's "turn off" in English.

Or, rather, mainland Canadian English.

I'd love to see someone in Quebec learn English here and then move to Ontario. They'd be saying shit like, "Put the side back in her!" instead "Please close the door". It'd be fun to watch.

Canada has a lot of iconic structures but only has one iconic office tower and that is Place Ville Marie.

It is the only office building in the country that is not only universally recognized but also associated with an individual city. I think the there nicer office towers in Canada {including in Montreal} but PVM is a classic.

Place Ville Marie is what all the other office towers in the country want to be when they grow up.

PVM would hugely benefit from a little facelift. The current skin is showing its age.
Speaking of which I remember RBC investing a few millions into the building about a year ago, but I guess that was just interior work.

I don't understand why featureless glass and steel boxes are being seen as treasures, yet featureless all glass boxes and disliked.

spoken like a native-born Quebec Anglo.

Newfoundlanders aren't the only ones to possess a special English dialect in the country.

and unlike the rest of Canada, anglo Quebeckers say "ZEE" and not "ZED". Also, "how comes..."
