The Pumphouse tower really fills out that view. I like that part of it.

Apparently the next phase is starting in September. They have closed the parking lot at the back of the Pumphouse and removed all of the electrical.

The 'box on stilts' aesthetic which originally put me up definitely worked out in the end. Looks pretty good now up close IMO and especially nice within the surrounding buildings. Will only look better as more lots fill up around there.

Hopefully I strike it rich so I can begin converting those red brick warehouses on Alexander into ultra hip townhouses

Has there been any news on the garbage can development or the Duncan arena? I think they were on hold type thing due to COVID last I heard. Did anything actually come of the Duncan ting or was that just mentioned as a future development.

the city replaced some of the trademark five-bulb exchange district decorative lighting that used to be in front of this development along waterfront dr. with the new single head lamps they're putting up everywhere. they are way less distinctive and every new light they seem to install these days has absolutely brutal-looking connections to the ground. i don't understand why they aren't going with the poles that have the built-in decorative bases like they put up all over wolsely and river heights..

Probably some engineer at Hydro (who maintains and installs all street lighting) has no clue whats going on.

Hydro appears to be standardizing all their street lighting offerings to reduce inventory costs as their catalog has only 3 different styles of ornamental lighting other than the standard cobra head street light.

When the city tenders were still open for public viewing I recall reading that when the fixtures in the exchange were replaced a few years ago, they had to be cast from a mold made from a sample fixture as they were not stock items. The city only paid for replacements for the project and a few more for eventual damage replacement.

I am sure that's the same problem that is in Chinatown and the Forks with those fixtures not being replaced. The number of unique spare fixtures have been exhausted and they are not stock items.

i just wish they would at least standarize the connection to the ground. they did such a good job on Lily. it's so ugly for the pedestrian experience when they're left exposed and uneven.. sucks about the unique exchange globe lights not being replaced

At some point, the ornamental lights were manufactured. There would be drawings and such. Having to make a mould from an existing one is bloody hilarious.

Due to circumstances beyond the city's control there is a chance the drawings and original molds may not be available from where they had them made before.

Not all businesses believe in business continuity and have stuff backed up offsite to continue business in case of fire, flood, apprentice dropping existing mold, etc.

I walked up the stairs now that they are open and wow the craftsmanship on this is real shit. That metal screen guise at the top is very sharp, the concrete everywhere is chipped and has large pieces missing already. Yikes.

It really bugs me that everything is black, but then there's parts of the stairs and some railings that are just silver metal. Looks cheap and unfinished. Maybe it's not done yet, but considering there's no vertical bars on all the railings that have the black screen in front of them, I feel like maybe that's the final finish....

Ya the stairs look a little cheap but overall this project turned out better (and less clunky) than I expected. On to phase two.

It looks better than one might have feared and helps step the streetscape back from the brink of looking too suburban. It never did, but it was tottering on the edge.

I like what it adds to the street with everything right up to the sidewalk. Once Great West Metals property comes into play this will become a fantastic street all facing the river, the boutique hotel, and the park. Wait 'til the film industry takes notice.
