This is all looking great -- it makes me wish that an even greater extension of Metrorail were possible.

Although true airport links are still as scarce as hen's teeth in NA. This is a significant achievement for Miami.

That actually looks really nice. There aren't any plans for further expansion at the moment, though, right?

Praha as you know we need Federal funding to expand Metrorail! I might as well be praying for 72 Virgins in Heaven!

illithid dude Yes there are plans for expansion. The issue comes down to money. Miami-Dade county and the state of Florida paid for this without one drop of Federal money.

mrNYC? I didn't take the pictures! They are from the Metro-Dade Government website.

Looking up the MIC website, the intermodal center is opening in stages. The Rental Car Center opened in July, 2010. If I'm reading the website info correctly, the MIA Mover and Miami Metrorail station are scheduled to start service by April 2012. The Miami Central Station with Tri-Rail and Amtrak service is to open in 2013.

Looks to be an impressive and true intermodal facility: airport, car rental facility, MIA Mover to airport terminals, access to airport parking, Miami Metrorail, buses, commuter Tri-Rail, and Amtrak long distance trains from NYC. The train station part also has space set aside for HSR tracks, but that is going to have to wait until FL has a new governor and can get funding to build a Miami - Orlando HSR line. Might have to take Amtrak to Miami someday to check it out.

Are there any other intermodel station projects in the US being done on this scale?

Denver Union Station and the new Transbay Terminal in San Francisco come to mind.

Chicago is also considering a City Air Terminal that puts airline check-in and both airport lines in the same place, but I don't think that falls under this definition.

MIA People Mover opens to the Intermodal Center

The Miami Int'l. Airport's new people mover system to the InterModal Center has opened. However it only serves the Rental Car facility portion. The link with the new Metro Rail station will open by April 2012 when construction & testing will be complete.

^ Elevators to the MIA people mover.

^ Walkway to the station.

^ Entrance to the station.

^ Inside the station and it looks to be very busy.

^ Waiting for the people mover.

PHX Sky Harbor airport is building a $1 billion automated "people mover" to connect to Metro Light Rail serving Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa.

Phase 1 (construction is finishing up) will serve east economy parking and terminal 4. Phase 2 will serve terminals 3 and 2 (once they demo and rebuild terminal 2) and the Car rental facility on the west side of the airport.

Yep, right now PHX SkyTrain construction is almost to be completion sometime in 2012 or late-2012. You can see it. I'll try to take a picture when I can.

You can go on PHX Sky Harbor Facebook. You can see the picture. Go ahead and do it for me.
