Bit of nerdery: The easement that building sits on top of may be disused, but they still have to keep it free. So it's gonna have a bit of a hole in its basement, but it won't be too hard to build. The real question then becomes: if/when that SEPTA easement does get used, how will it be accessed? This site would be an ideal spot for a stop...

Not that we are likely to see anything so architecturally stunning (or tall), but I'd rather see them do nothing for now and wait until conditions are appropriate to do a real tower. Maybe in partnership with the museum/city. Something like Tower Verre/53W53:

http://www.dezeen.com/2015/05/20/jea...-three-floors/

Much prefer it remaining as is for now (which is really not so bad) than the abortion of an 11 story building, which would preclude any better future use. The Parkway can be transformed into a luxury destination (give residents special museum privileges too). And something could be designed that complements the museum. Maybe even have the museum (or another museum) use some space in the tower like the are doing at 53W53. Barnes is already planning an expansion. The Philly art museum is also expanding with a Gehry redesign.

Big changes coming to the two storefronts right next to the new Brickstone development. If someone wants to PM me their email, I'll send them a pic of the zoning notice to post. There generally seems to be a bunch of new vacancies on the surrounding blocks on Chestnut. Same for Walnut. I think that in the next 5 years we'll see some great new retail/residential coming to Chestnut from Broad to 11th and then some turnover of some of the remaining low rent stores on those blocks.

This should be a requirement for any development that spans multiple lots.
Break up the facade to at least appear to be separate buildings. I'm talking to you SLC.

Architectural studies have shown that this is far more aesthetically pleasing then long monotonous facades.

Fits more with the character of this city as well. Big, bland and uninterrupted is another "step on the road to Dallas." I'm not at all making fun of that phrase, as I get Justin's point. It seems like it has entered the forum lexicon, so it seems like good shorthand for Anyplace, USA lack of character.

Old city will soon be known as

"Little Dallas"

Once we get to that point.....its too late

This isn't Fishtown -- it's East Kensington. Fishtown is on the east side of Frankford.

My bad. My GPS needs to be recalibrated 50 feet to the east.

It's all good. Everyone always mixes up the areas. I live right there which is why I was setting the facts straight. :-)

I think East Kensington north/south borders are Norris and Lehigh. And the east/west borders are Front St and Frankford until York then Trenton after York. That's how we are drawn on nextdoor.com -- which has some of the best neighborhood maps I've seen.

Cro, thank you for all of the updates! It was splendid to look at all you covered.

You might say we're delusional.

Oh wait, that's right--you already did.
