Whether you're throwing a pass or pumping gas, it takes a great arm. I'm Joe Namath, and I've got Dick Assmania.

How about the following:

Leslie Nielsen Drive (Famous actor from Regina)
Roland Groome Expressway (Canada's first aviator from Regina)
Oskana Bypass (Cree word for Pile of Bones)

I'm sure there's lots more out there to choose from.

I really like the Roland Groome Expressway! That works really well, similarly rolls off the tongue like "Anthony Henday" well done Sir!

I must say, I'm partial to the Regina Bypass. It's to the point and the name everyone is already calling it.

I'm kind of hung up on names that wouldn't pass the health and safety test:
"drive like you stole something road"
"killway"
"hey, you cut me off you mother f***** drive"
"I've got ebola road"

How about the Regina Bypass? No need for some silly name. I would prefer all highways/freeways be named by number. Highway 1, or Highway 3 or whatever. Like the interstates. Even numbers go east-west, odd numbers go north south. Simple and has some method to the madness.

True but as the Anthony Henday is Highway 216 but has the name as well. And Stoney Trail is 201, it can have both a number and a name. Also US interstates have names in some cities.

Nielson lived here for less than a year as baby.

Groome already has YQR, sort of and a street in the south end.

Oksana... maybe.

How about the following Cree words:

kistatamiw ᑭᐢᑕᑕᒥᐤ a path or road that is well travelled (EC)

meskanaw ᒣᐢᑲᓇᐤ road (EC)

I'm not a big fan of the monarchy but given the city already has a strong royal theme how about Duke of Cambridge expressway......or simply, "the duke"

We already have the 'Ring Road' ...a nice, simple and to-the-point name, so how about the bypass being called the "Long Way Around"?!

I still do not get the Thunderchild thing. He has nothing to do with Regina. He is a Treaty 6 chief. I could understand a Treaty 4 Chief:

Treaty 4 signatories from the chiefs as follows: Ka-kii-shi-way (Ochapowace), Pis-qua (Pasqua), Ka-wez-ance (Cowessess), Ka-kee-na-wup (Muskowekwan), Kus-kee-tew-mus-coo-musqua (Little Black Bear), Ka-ne-on-us-ka-tew (Gordon), Can-ah-ha-cha-pew (Peepeekisis), Kii-si-caw-chuck (Day Star), Ka-ra-ca-toose (Kawacatoose), Ka-kii-nis-ta-haw (Kahkewistehaw), Cha-ca-chas (Ochapowace), Wa-pii-moose-too-sus (Star Blanket), Meemay (Cote).

Personally I think I would prefer a descriptive or generic name unless the historic individual name really rolled off the tongue and would actually be used by people.
And yet; he's on the list of approved names for Regina streets.

So long as it's not Rider related I'll be happy. It's just so cheesy. The Riders certainly don't define Saskatchewan in my eyes. SO many more important things in the history of this province than.....the riders.

Great Shot! I was wondering when they were going to post pictures... Also do you have a link to where the image is?

I hope something like this will be available when the Bypass project gets underway..

Maybe the city will finally get to use this name somewhere and call the bypass the Dethridge Freeway.
