Favorite elevator manufacturer

Since these forums are about buildings, I wonder if anyone has an interest in elevators. If you would have a favorite manufacturer of elevators, what manufacturer would it be?

I am personally a KONE fan myself.

I dont know, the only elevator company I know the name of is Otis.

From wikipedia.
"Statistically, Otis is the world's most popular transportation company. It is estimated that the equivalent of the world's population travel in Otis elevators, escalators and moving walkways every three days. According to United Technologies, Otis elevators carry the equivalent of the world's population every nine days."

The four largest manufacturers (in order) are Otis, Schindler, ThyssenKrupp, and KONE.

I assumed there would have been some knowledge on elevator manufacturers on these forums due to the knowledge of buildings.

^^^I do take note of what kind of elevators I ride in but I don't really notice that one brand is noticeably better than another. Do you use some sort of criteria for stating that one is better than the other?

Well, KONE invented the machine room-less (MRL) traction elevator, which uses about half as much energy as a conventional geared traction elevator for mid-rise buildings and a third as much energy as hydraulic elevators for low-rise buildings. The KONE EcoSpace can fit in an existing hydraulic elevator hoistway.

Well that's pretty interesting. I must say, where I live, the vast majority of elevators are Otis or Thyssen Krupp.

Hey! You can't be playing the elevators. You are not little boy anymore. You are an adults.

Mitsubishi's elevator in the Shanghai Tower is supposed to be the new fastest elevator at 59 feet per second. The fastest elevator I've been in was made by Otis and travels 549 meters per minute. I like the antique bird cage cabs, with lots of cast iron, brass and wood trim, various manufacturers but probably most of them were Otis. There are some more manufacturers who only make cabs, most modern elevator cabs are pretty boring though. The kind that go up the outside of buildings are fun. Inclinators are interesting too, the one in the Luxor hotel is Otis. I've only been in one double-deck elevator, no triple-deck elevators have been made that I know of. Frank Lloyd Wright envisioned atomic powered five-deck elevators in his Mile High Illinois design.

I've ridden in some beautiful old Otis elevators ranging from a manual cage elevator from 1929 through a few models from the 1950s. For those I have to say they are my favorite.

My second favorite would have to go to ThyssenKrupp.

I'm neutral on Schindler.

I've never really liked KONE, but I think that's mostly because my experience with their lifts has unfortunately always been hydraulic which are slower than death and I've been in a few that have developed a nasty bounce over the years. I will give them credit for the machine-room-less design though.

I am pretty cool with any elevator that doesn't malfunction and drop me 40 floors to my death.

Did they also do elevators at 4WTC? Those are very cool with touch screen floor buttons outside the elevator and no floor buttons inside. Pretty futuristic looking.

^LOL@ the underwear in the last elevator! WTF indeed. But seriously, this whole video is full of things guaranteed to make an elevator technician's heart weep.
