Well, I'm sure the Haussmannian era was discussed on here several times, but maybe not in depth. It's still controversial and highly debatable.
The problem is it took a dictatorial and corrupt far-right regime for Haussmann to implement his plan over Paris. That's how he could demolish some large crime-ridden crumbling areas from the Middle Ages to build better things for the local bourgeoisie back then.

It's not that Haussmann himself would really be questionable in my opinion. He was just a senior official from Alsace who grew a skillful urban planner from being the prefect of Bordeaux before being appointed over the Paris region, still as a prefect. The guy just had an opportunity to achieve spectacular things, then he told himself - ok, let's do this thing.
But then, there was dictatorship over the country, which of course wouldn't make way to any kind of democratic NIMBYism. If you disagreed with Napoleon III's regime, you simply were likely to be deported to French Guiana to die over there in prison.
You'll admit that it's not a kind of regime that should be advertised, even though it was a very convenient way to screw NIMBYism.

I bet Napoleon III's dictatorship was a role model to Franco in Spain, Pinochet in Chile and a few others of that kind.
We'd rather stick to fair democracy and deal with NIMBYism by different means such as education, quite frankly.

ok professor.

Seriously, did you really write a history lesson? I come here to shoot the breeze in a joke thread, not discuss the minutae of French history, no offense.

Stockholm's superhero would be The Annotator and his spandex uniform would have an asterisk on the front.

He'd go around eavesdropping on arguments and screaming "CITATION NEEDED" in Swedish whenever your line of thinking strayed too far from that of the government.

Easily one of the worst superheroes. But if you complained, people would point out how Batman is really rather dangerous so on balance they'd rather have The Annotator because he is responsible.

Knowledge is always a good thing, even if it's sometimes lost on certain people.

We need a superhero(s) that has a special sort of vision that enables he/she to see the virus particles floating around and zaps it a la' Ghost Busters type of aerosol weapon attached to a back pack..We need team Aykroyd.

Is there a BBQ Man superhero?

That would be appropriate for KC.

A transit-obsessed, resident mega-billionaire with a crazy net worth like Jeff Bezos who will ardently donate some of his fortune to building out his/her grand vision for an expanded LA subway system, starting with extending the Purple Line to Wilshire/4th in Santa Monica. S/he would have complete oversight of the entire process from start to finish, ensuring as few cost overruns as possible. Metro’s incompetent, crooked leaders would be reduced to sycophants, as the projects would be to the benefit of their constituents.

For Flagstaff, AZ? It'd probably be some rando hipster with a lumberjack beard who wears a ton of flannel and drives a Subaru. He only frequents the local coffee shops, that's his source of power. Moonlights as a waiter at one of the microbreweries.

Hell if I know what he'd be called? The Flagstaffian? Like most people who live here, he doesn't really do anything except bitch about the visiting Phoenicians and Californians to anyone who will give him the time of day.

In Boston we need "Construction Man." This will be a regular construction worker who has the ability to clone fully grown versions of himself hundreds or even thousands of times. Then the clones can resume all the construction projects here, full speed ahead, without fear of spreading coronavirus.

and speaking of the clev and newspaper comics -- kent state has tom batuik and chuck ayers, who brightened up a student lounge with their funky winkerbean and crankshaft type stuff.
