Welcome Diner in the Garfield neighborhood has just added daytime hours. I always thought it was weird they didn't serve lunch, but better late than never.

To some degree I think not opening sooner helped the Roosevelt Diner, in Welcome’s former space, gain a bit of ground. Of the 3 iterations since Welcome Diner vacated, this one has had the most promise IMO. Instead of competing with WD during its similar hours, it picked up customers with a breakfast and lunch menu.

A ‘Coming Soon’ sign is up for a gastropub called The Jackalope in the former Milk Bar space. Saw some work being done on its back patio as well.

I remember reading that the Root & Soul, formerly of the DeSoto Central Market and then north Scottsdale, was going to move into that space. I wonder if those plans didn’t work out.

Interior work being done on the upcoming restaurant, Chez Gregory, the first house after the Circle K on 7th St/Roosevelt. Honestly didn’t expect this one to go anywhere. Fence is removed and porch is being reinforced.

Hoping the same but the Circle K crowd I’m afraid will be a permanent fixture.

Not really surprising but it’s going to be a tough year as we move from what should’ve been the high tourist season into the Summer doldrums. I’m nervous how this will impact downtown businesses.

There was an article posted on AzFamily last night. Apparently several restaurants in Downtown Chandler may not reopen their doors after the WuFlu subsides....I wonder what the implications are for other valley foodie clusters whose biz models rely on people dining in.

A lot of restaurants are announcing closures with the tone that it's permanent I think because people are side tracked. Also most don't know. Might be embarrassing to say "will re open" and then go out of business.

With the Stimulus bill passing last night, I hope most restaurants and bars get the relief they need to stay open! Ideally we get through this in the next month or so, most people get these checks to get out of our homes to spend it at all our great restaurants and bars!!!!!
