My 'blueprint' edit:

Climbing formwork for installing glass on the slope walls?

Call me crazy, but these spandrel panes definitely have a greenish-teal tinge to them. It's still probably won't be the green we hoped for *but* I don't think it's going to be true blue. While a small sample, the way these panes photograph remind me much more of the way Wolf Point West photographs than say Trump or 150.

I believe like two of the 7 shades of glass are still technically a shade of green, most of the shades are blue now.

Goddamn, vexxed! Those pics are mind blowing! Great shots man, and thanks for sharing!

Anyone else get a strong Hong Kong vibe from this pic? I mean that in the best way possible, of course.

Not really, Hong Kong would have 1000 skyscrapers in the background, shit, it would even have one in between us and vista.

Lol, no denying that. I was more so reflecting on the sheer amount of concrete that seems to almost take over the photo. Very reminiscent of the high rise neighborhoods out there built en masse, although clearly not at anywhere near that scale. This is Chicago, and not Hong Kong, after all.

You're right, so much concrete in the picture. Keep in mind though the picture is literally from Vista's next door neighbor.

Well that depends on where in Hong Kong you are and which direction you are looking..... The skyscrapers do stop in Hong Kong and it completely even depends on where you are.

Besides, I'll take the stuff in Chicago over most stuff in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is super impressive from a number of skyscrapers perspective, but HK is also easily the most overrated "architecture" city I've ever spent time in. The majority of the stuff is non descript crap looking concrete rectangles.

I never said Hong Kong is better, I'll take Chicago architecture over Hong Kong any time of the day as a Chicagoan. Anyways lets not get off topic.

I know you didn't - I was just making a statement and how I think it's overrated from that perspective...and I know what you mean. I also think that the pics are too close anyway to not get a "Hong Kong vibe" - but you are right - in most places of the city you'd see a ton of skyscrapers behind it. From some areas of the city, the tourist parts then I could see it but only because it's up close, but otherwise not really.

I could see where your going with that. Yeah with the vertical tower full of 100's of windows. Reaching for the sky. It does have (some parts of the pic) a slight resemblance. With its maze like appearance. Like a mini-city, but in 1 tower.

The bulkiness is its most defining feature. Its something different in this cycle. This is just one big-ass massive tower in layman terms.

IMO, every city needs to have a fine mixture of slender, mid-sized, and monoliths. Sometimes, depending on the angle, the bulk adds a lot to the overall aesthetics of the skyline.

To the talented photographers in this forum: am I right in assuming that taking pictures of this building is challenging because finding a true vertical is tough? Or is it just like any other building with an unusual exterior wall?

You're 100% correct. It's simple enough when there are other 'straight' buildings in the frame to work off of, but it's very tough if you're focusing on a chunk of the building. It's extra tough if you're camera isn't plumb and level - and or you don't use a tilt-shift lens. When you tilt up (or down) you get those terrible converging parallel lines and the sloped sides make it tough to correct the perspective for that perfect (parallel vertical lines) architectural look.

The good ting is that although the vertical columns are offset, they are perfectly vertical so you can at least use those as a reference point.

Thanks for the insight. The biggest issue I've always had with architectural photography is the insistence that the building walls be parallel going all the way up. In many cases, it does make for a compelling shot of a building, but in others, the distortion is off-putting. Though it's just a rendering, consider this Exhibit A:

Anyway, don't want to get off-topic. Great shots!

Seems a bit sluggish to me considering how strong the economy is but who knows. Wonder if Jahn’s tower will ever make it to 50%.

I do hope the hotel is re-flagged. I'm not crazy about how Wanda hotel sounds. There are still numerous, well-known 5-star hotel operators not represented in the city.

^The Crains article did mention that Marriott is scouting Chicago to put up a St. Regis luxury flag, but nothing TOO specific about Vista.

A Raffles, Armani or Bulgari luxury hotel would add cache in that there are no other comps in the US right now..

Edit: I think there is an Armani hotel in Miami(?) nm
