Austin SXSW 2015

Oh SXSW, how I love your humidity, your shitshow of humanity and your all-engrossing cacophony.

Of course, what we're really there for are the shows, so I'll leave you with this backstage shot of Incubus making their SXSW debut...

Sweet. I always enjoy seeing an outsider's perspective. Nice pics!

Kevin, did anything in particular stick out as really outsider-ish? You got me curious now, especially since I'm at a place where I'm starting to get what I think is a real feel for the place (I'm up to ~18 days spent in the metro).

Nothing really, I guess. Except for the crane shots maybe. I hear and read a lot of comments about people being surprised by the number of them. I really like your people pics. I went down to 6th Street Wednesday night for a few, but mostly just went for skyline views and then went "joy riding" - on my bike around downtown.

Ah ok. My first time to Austin was three years ago and the place was absolutely booming then, so the crane thing doesn't really surprise me any more except for the Seton/UT project which by my count has seven cranes up and absolutely dominated my view from the Doubletree Austin University Area hotel--by any standards that's a huge looking project.

But even before then, I've been aware of Austin's tremendous growth ever since the Frost Bank Tower went up, which I've always thought was a cool looking building and still do. It's fun to watch a place grow so quickly

hah. the canadians always seem to be extra red-faced and sweaty from the humidity/warmth at SXSW.

I thought the weather was great. Wednesday was particularly nice. Friday and Saturday were washed out, though, with the rain. They even cancelled the big outdoor concert at Auditorium Shores because the park was soaked.

Anyway, I really like the pics. That 2nd to last shot with the Capitol dome sticking up is nice.

Wednesday was pretty nice, though the heat really seemed to crank up in the evening. Thursday was iffy though, and Friday... I'm glad that's the day we flew back home.

Imagine if SXSW took place sometime during the July-September time frame. Talk about sweaty masses.

Kudos to kznyc2k for this SXSW collection and his flickr photo stream. There are a lot of amazing photos of NYC and cars.

I recall that Saturday was on the cool side, but kind of pleasant temperatures (although rainy at times), with people wearing light jackets even during the day (mostly 50s during the day). I don't remember what the temperatures were on Sunday, though.

I think it was less than two weeks before SXSW that we had a morning low of 21F one day and some pretty cold weather. There have also been SXSW where it was so cold that even northerners complained. But usually it's pretty mild since it's held in March.

Very cool photos. I loved my one visit to Austin two years ago. I actually could see myself living there.

Very nice and sharp pictures! Thanks for sharing, kznyc2k!

Austin is a very vibrant city. The SXSW festivals must be an interesting time to visit the city. Love the people shots you captured.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.
