Proposal from Temple University will replace Barton hall with a 8 floor 241 foot highrise at the corner of 12th and Polett walk. It will connect Gladfelter Hall and the Engineering Building as well as the Biology-Life Sciences Building with a skybridge over 12th street. Barton will be demolished to make way for Green Space.

^^^ Hmmm. That's a bit disappointing actually. I like the two renders at the top of the thread a lot better. This looks rather generic.

None of these look like they are 241' tall, what exactly is being built?

The Engineering building, Gladfelter and Anderson Halls are all within the range 240 feet apparently. But who knows what is being built. There have been so many renders on this and none have been labeled official.

I think Gladfelter is only about 120'-130' its 11 floors with fairly low ceilings. The tallest building on campus is Wachman and its only a little over 200'. This building will probably wind up being ~120'. The 241' comes from the zoning variance which they got before they had final plans since the money was a last minute gift from the outgoing Rendell Administration.

Interesting, I was told Anderson is about 240 feet and the others are within feet of that height. I guess this was false information. The zoning board just approved a "footprint" of the tower. As far as I know the height was approximated to be 241 feet and the final render is not finished. So who knows

This building is set to start construction later this spring. No final renders yet.

I snapped a few photos the other day, it looks like they're starting prep work on the SER building.

The small walkway and treed area in front of the engineering building have been cleared and they're bricking up the windows:

An overview of the sight. The jersey barrier with fencing extends to 12th and Polett Walk and goes down the length of Polett Walk to the tunnel under Anderson and Gladfelter.

I too, also snapped some pictures of this today. No official renders....yet. The Temple website says design is complete... so who knows.

Hopefully the green space added by the demolishing of Barton's Hall is done up right with some benchs and an open area where students can use for leisure activities or pick up games.
