I heard that the lease for the Langley Costco location is not being renewed, and Costco is planning to build a new location at Hwy 1 and 216. but I can't find any news stories or development applications confirming this.

Reddit said this two months ago but the address makes no sense I assume.

I've read recently that there could be a new Costco on 24th Ave near 186 St to replace the Costco in Langley that will close. Totally unconfirmed.

I would think that Costco would be a big enough company that they would own the Langley Costco, not lease it.

But if they do lease Langley location, it opened February 24, 2005. If it was a 20 year lease, that would expire in 16 Months. But 20 years is just speculation.

Not sure if this is new or not but seems like this is the future Langley location

20175 100A Avenue – Industrial
Purchased by Costco Wholesale for roughly $ 31.9 million, this Langley industrial property, located only blocks away from Highway #1, represents a strategic addition to the retailer’s supply chain. The company also acquired the adjacent property (20233 100A Avenue) in April 2021 for $25,000,000. These acquisitions represent the company's first transactions in the Greater Vancouver region since 2005.

A little bit industrial for a Costco retail location.. but the area is probably changing a lot like everywhere else.

Interesting, across the street is Costco's huge BC distribution centre.

it seems like it would be a good fit for a Costco Business Center as they have less traffic/smaller parking lots than traditional stores and logistically being next door to the DC is a no brainer as well.

I think they will open the Biz Center at this location and that they have land picked up in the 80th/216th area for a new regular store. thats what the word on the street seems to be in terms of a new (relocated) regular store.

Not really connected to what happens to the site but the vendor was Lark Group which developed the Port Kells industrial park that houses a Costco distribution centre.

interesting thanks. so from the image taken from thier site what are the 3 buildings?

The development includes three buildings, with the largest being Costco’s Western Canadian Distribution branch.

so do we think that they are these 3 buildings I crudely circled >>

as if so then Costco bought the buildings Across the street to the NORTH ... so that would give them that whole site to play with .... if so I am gonna call right now a DUAL Costco Business Center and Regular store like they built in Salt Lake City only this store would have parking garages/Roof Top Parking >> https://www.deseret.com/2015/10/31/2...t-in-the-world

and another new store this one in West San Jose with the roof top parking element >> https://costcowestgatewest.com/

the Lowes site in New West closed down rather than rebranding. that would be a good location for a Costco business Centre, could it be converted or better to just rebuild a new store? if new they could do the underground parking style.

Was just re-reading this post and I think the two properties they bought are on the North side of the road. But thinking about it doesn't it seem more likely as expanded distribution warehouse space?

do they really need that for the BC Store footprint that has remained the same for over a decade and probably never will grow?

OR

Are they landing so much cargo in Vancouver and breaking it down that they need the extra space here perhaps?

I still think a store there either Biz or Regular seems like a no brainer. they could both build a new store and also expand the Distro with the land they seem to have now and by building to higher FSR/Roof top or vertical parking garages.

I was just looking at the road connections and it just seemed like it couldn't support a high traffic location.

BC has 14 locations
Alberta ha 19 locations

The Alberta distribution centre is 430,000 square feet and will be expanded to over 1 million square feet in the next few years.

The Langley one is ~230,000 square feet.

Ontario is 573,000 square feet in Vaughan.

I guess they might just need more container storage parking as well.
