Lloyds Recreation shutting down after 53 years in business

Lloyds Recreation shutting down after 53 years in business. Last session is Sunday, February 18 1-6PM. Probably the last real, roller rink (no poles in skating area, wood floors) in western Canada. Another Calgary institution gone.

Is Lloyds the roller rink that features in some Huevos Rancheros music videos?

Never heard of it in all honesty.

I think the advent of in-line skating, and the evolution of city planning with pathways where things like that can be done, was a nail in the coffin for roller rinks.

50+ years in business is quite something though.

Lloyds is still quite busy, as busy now as I've seen it 10 or 20 or even 30 years ago. Inline, yupp you see that at Lloyds and they even rent inline skates.
