University of Saskatchewan's Health Science complex in Saskatoon with Jim Pattison Children's Hospital foreground and Royal University Hospital in the middle of pic. Star fish resembling old hospital used for offices and some of the diagnostic areas just behind. 600+ beds in total.

Saskatoon Cancer Centre is half way in sight of photo to the left where skybridge is leading from RUH. Another skywalk to the right in photo from RUH leads to Ellis Hall and walk way to Dubé Mental Health Centre just out of sight of photo to the right.

U of Sask Health Sciences building with 5 smoke stacks on top and E wing with white roof at the back of photo, U of S Dentistry dept is in the middle of health sciences somewhere...

reverse end of above photo with front of Health Sciences.

Thanks for posting. Those are some massive medical centres. I wouldn't have imagined such large complexes in Saskatchewan.

Being a sucker for Art Deco I've always like The Princess Margaret Hospital on University Avenue (Bedpan Alley).

That's really the Ontario Hydro Building ... they made PMH keep the facade. The big concrete building next to it is Mount Sinai and after that, the shorter yellow brick one is the Toronto Rehabilitation Hospital, which used to be Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Across from them is Toronto General, with multiple buildings, and Sick Kids, with its own big campus, and in behind those is Women's College Hospital. The other downtown hospitals are St. Mike's, which is huge, and the Toronto Western. There used to also be the Wellesley and the Doctors Hospital but those are gone now.

The art Deco structure built in 1952 has always been the Princess Margaret Hospital.

Indeed, if I couldn't find the Princess Margaret there, I wouldn't know where to look for it.

Today is actually the 25th anniversary of its move to University Avenue from Sherbourne Street. https://thepmcf.ca/About-Us/About-th...ncess-Margaret

Quite a coincidence!

This was the Ontario Lunatic Asylum erected 1849. CAMH now stands at it's location, the only thing left of it is the brick wall on it's east and south side.

That's a ridiculously grand and stately building by 19th century Canadian standards. Impressive.

It could have passed as a legislature.

The (former) Royal Victoria Hospital, currently vacant. Waiting for McGill University to snatch it, as it should.

Built in phases from 1893 to the early 50's. Some of the pavilions reached 45m tall and were some of the tallest buildings in the city at the time.

Among the many medical milestones reached in these buildings, Norman Bethune and "I smell burnt toast" is perhaps it's most Canadian one.

"I smell burnt toast" LOL. Too bad McGill is going to take it. It would have been an amazing Hotel and condo conversion with retail and offices on the lower levels. Minus that 1950's section. That part can go.

Here's the booklet produced when the Canadian Armed Forces Health Services left the National Defence Medical Centre in 2017. This was the national military hospital for several decades, providing care not only to military members but also to the Governor General, diplomats and senior government leaders. The building still stands at 1745 Alta Vista Dr in Ottawa but (aside for a brief stint recently as the military's COVID-19 clinic) no longer provide clinical services.

The Calgary Cancer Centre is nearing completion. One million square feet and will immeasurably increase Canada's cancer research and treatment capabilities. It will nearly double the size of Foothills Medical Centre, making it the largest medical facility in the country and with the most beds.

The hospital, including the Cancer Centre, is entirely hideous though.

In this image, the new parking construction is UC in the centre, to make more room for when the parking is lost for the Cancer Centre (top right parking lot).

PCL has been selected as the builder of the new St-Paul Hospital, to be built next to the Pacific Central (VIA) Station. Here are some new renderings and a video:

Site of the future new Civic Hospital near Dow's Lake. The lake is out of frame, at the bottom. The Trillium station of the same name (formerly Carling) is centre, right next to the white former car dealership.

How many of Canada's hospitals have you used over your lifetime?

I have always been reasonably fit and healthy, but was shocked to realize how many I have been treated at: 13.

Saguenay (Hôpital de Chicoutimi)
Montréal (Montréal General)
Ottawa (Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus)
Edmonton (Royal Alexandra)
Victoria (Royal Jubilee)
Toronto (Wellesley, Toronto Western, Sunnybrook)
Vancouver(University, St Paul's, Vancouver General, White Rock, Royal Columbian)

Shocking!

Too many, sadly. But the hospital I was born (Montreal Jewish General), is the best one I've ever used. The service has been top notch.
