t-minus one month until they blame the city for delaying another permit (which wasn't even applied for) you mean.

Hadn't realized that it has been six years already. Are they finished with the preliminary work?

Downtown Regina Hotel/Condo Could Be Built By End of 2011
Owners Plan to Close Plains at End of This Year

> Change Coming To Regina's Skyline
Posted August 14, 2009 - 3:16pm

It's a project being described as a "dream come true" for the man who owns the Plains Hotel.

"His goal is having a major brand hotel," says Joon Kim of Westgate Developments, whose father owns the Plains property at Albert Street and Victoria Avenue. Westgate Plaza, slated to replace the Plains, will feature an eight story hotel that Kim says will likely be a Hilton Garden Inn, as well as a 19-story condo tower.

The city says the project could go before the planning commission next month. Kim says condo units could be available for sale by the end of September. He thinks there's a market for what they're proposing.

"Pretty much all the condominiums in the downtown area in Regina are conversions of older buildings," he says, as opposed to the higher-end suites being proposed. "I feel really confident that we're going to be successful."

Kim says the plan is for the Plains to close at the end of the year with a New Year's bash. After that, he hopes demolition can begin in March, with a completion date for the project of the end of 2011.

Is expiring permits considered preliminary work?

They demolished the Plains Hotel and had the cabling work underneath done. They've also grown some spectacular native plants on the site.

There's a solar sign on Victoria Avenue and McIntyre westbound that states "Construction starts Aug 27th." Moreover, there's a blue shitter onsite.

Hmmmm.

I'll take 5:1 odds that it's minor landscaping (i.e. weeds being removed) or something of that nature. At most, nothing permanent will be installed.

No year?

Hahahaha.

Honestly I'd love to see something start, but given the lack of news from city meetings and such about permits for the site I'd be surprised.

Hmmmm.
The sign is for Saskpower work on Vic and some surrounding streets; not related to Capital Pointe.

One step forward, two steps back. The weeds were the only progress on that site.

True, the site made it to 3 feel above ground, but has now fallen back to below 1 foot.

I was going to take a picture of the swanky three-foot tall model they have in the sales office here and post it in the Sky City thread, but that would be inconsiderate.

It would be nice to hear some exciting news bout this project.. Totally would be exciting construction project and help create more jobs in Regina. I do however hear some news from a source, that a certain company is going through the concrete and formwork details of this project, but how much of that is true im not sure, I don't have good proof yet.

Could work out better for cost if they do it after the stadium is done... If it actually happens... pretty big if.

I'm guessing their "units sold" mark won't move until they actually start building though. At this point, I can't see anyone buying in without some actual proof of progress; they've pretty much shot themselves in the foot.
