The old birks store is going to be an upscale ladies wear shop. Why can't a decent men's wear store open in this city!?

The new East Point Shopping Sobeys Extra store will be opening this Thursday morning, August 25, 2016, at 9AM.

Their daily hours will see them open each day, minus stat holidays, from 7AM-Midnight, a slight change from the 24-7 schedule they were operating at McAllister Place.

This will end what I believe to be a 38-year association between McAllister Place and Sobeys Inc.

Sobeys Extra @ East Point Shopping 3 days before it's opening date.

A Sobey's employee told me that Winners will be taking over the old Sobey's in the Mall, but I'll believe it when I see it. I was hoping for a NO Frills or FoodLand.

Ah...okay, Michael. XD

And I don't see Winners-Homesense going anywhere soon. They would, in reality, be downsizing if they moved to McAllister Place. That was probably a rumour started by one of Winners employees, just to throw people off the trail. =P

BTW, anyone have any pics of the now-former Sobeys, now that it's closed?

New Costco Gas Bar?

Earlier today I noticed new construction at the corner of Retail Drive and Oakland St., in East Saint John. Not sure, but I thought that this was planned as a new Costco Gas Bar, so if anyone knows, please let me know too.

There was an East Point render map from years and years ago that showed a Gas Bar-esque design at the bottom of the hill. If there's any construction there it's a good bet it's that, although things can change.

I can only imagine what a CostCo gas bar on that corner would do for the already tumultuous traffic at that double intersection on Rothesay Avenue.

Actually, they have already built a back-way to Costco just behind the TD Insurance building on Rothesay Ave. If they added a back-way at the intersection of Retail Drive and Oakland Street it would result, I would think, in absolute chaos. I'm hoping it's the long-talked about Costco Gas Bar but we'll see soon I'm sure.

Ah, yes, I forgot about that - it will be interesting to see how traffic is if this is the Costco gas bar!

Does that road go anywhere yet? Google Maps shows it as not connecting to anything as of a few months ago.

It's not really a road. It's a single lane drive up a steep hill to a parking lot for TD Insurance, usually full of staff cars during the day. Doesn't connect up to Sobeys/East Point as there is another steep hill from the parking lot up to the rear of Sobeys.

Looks like that huge mound is almost gone in the middle of the pic. You got 2 roads there too.

Was anyone here told if or when the rest of the land there will finally be leveled out?

Found this in this weeks PAC agenda. Looks like the NB Liquor location at Prince Edward Square won't be vacant for long.

Good news for the mall for sure. It will get alot of attention and draw many people. My daughter is working there and apparently its going to be quite nice. They are expecting to be quite busy with a long line of eager shoppers. I'm hoping their success will attract additional retailers to Saint John.

Starbucks in Brunswick Square is closing November 5th. Apparently due to high lease renewal. Shocking - pretty soon that mall will be a ghost town.
