George Street Festival line-up was announced this morning. Not anything that really excites me (not that I attend anymore anyway ) Sunday is still TBD....my guess is either they're working on bringing in a huge act, or they're having major trouble finding anyone at all.

2016 George Street Festival - St. John's, NL

Thursday, July 28th (Bud Light Opening Night)
Headliner: Our Lady Peace
Other acts: The Trews

Friday, July 29th (Classic Rock Friday)
Headliner: Platinum Blonde
Other acts: Billy & The Bruisers, Alan Frew (from Glass Tiger)

Saturday, July 30th (Lambs Kitchen Party)
Headliner: The Mahones
Other acts: Celtic Connection, The Navigators, all day local acts

Sunday, July 31st
Headliner: TBD
Other acts: TBD

Monday, August 1st
Headliner: The Arkells
Other acts: Repartee, July Talk

Tuesday, August 2nd
Headliner: Alan Doyle & The Beautiful Gypsies
Other acts: TBD

Wednesday, August 3rd (Regatta Day)

Based on what I am seeing on social media posts and hearing from friends at the concert the Doolys Beach Blast will likely be a one off event as organizers really dropped the ball

Reports of 2+hour wait to get into the festival, 2 + hour wait to get drink tickets followed by another 2 hours to actually get drinks. People are waiting similar times to even get water on a hot day and had their water thrown out by security at the front gate. My timeline is flooded with images of garbage all over the festival grounds as there is not enough garbage cans or staff to clean anything up.

Very sad to hear as they got a great lineup of artists but nearly every single person is wanting their money back so I cannot imagine with this reputation they would bother to try again.

Maybe the organizers should have reached out to cavendish committee members to do their research on running one of these festivals. People showed up at the campgrounds last night which they paid 200+ dollars for and were told they had no room for them, and when there was room they had their tents only feet apart from their neighbours.

So unfortanute.

An unfortunate turn of events. Selena Gomez has ditched the rest of her tour citing health concerns. The weekend shows in Paradise and in Moncton are cancelled.

Chris deBurgh

Anyone hear when Chris deBurgh is coming to the maritimes? He's currently touring Europe and has a few dates listed in central Canada late sept/oct. Tickets Cape Breton has a spoiler posted but no other info. If he's coming to Sydney, he's probably doing Moncton and Halifax.

Thanks for the info. The concert thread has been a little moribund the last year or so. Maybe you'd like to be our "go to" person for concert information on SSP Atlantic.

Yes I've been lost ever since C103 closed down its concert forums so I'm glad to have stumbled across here. I live for this stuff and may have some juicy inside info from time to time.

I'm not a fan but I know he sells well in Moncton and I'm here so thought I'd let folks know. There's been no media buzz at all for this, that I've seen.

Download the Bandsintown app. And make a habit of checking the casino nb events listing regularly.

Not good news for Magnetic Hill:

Beleaguered Canadian music festivals struggle to fill fields
Industry insiders say festival bubble has not burst yet, but organizers aim for smaller events
By Yvette Brend, CBC News Posted: May 20, 2017 9:00 AM PT|
Last Updated: May 20, 2017 2:22 PM PT
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/britis...rock-1.4124633

Quote:
Running outdoor live music events is a tough gig across Canada, especially with the dollar hovering at 74 cents against the US dollar over the past two years, making bargaining for headline bands difficult in a world where the festival circuit is booming both in and outside Canada.

"The festival dollar — there's a lot of competition for that dollar — so unfortunately there are casualties," said Erin Benjamin, executive director of Music Canada Live in Ottawa.

Big headliners are expensive and it's a struggle to attract the bigger names that will fill fields.

Regardless of weather, there are fixed costs

Then, once organizers have booked security and organized setting up, it's a gamble whether they'll get enough ticket sales to pay the talent and break even.

There is also the astronomical cost of insurance, security and just setting up the event.

No matter if there is lightning, rain or weak ticket sales — those contracts must be honoured.

"It's a crapshoot," admits Benjamin.
