I wasn't able to find the location of the doorway but did read a little about the photographer, Anthony Hernandez. Interesting profile from the LA Times here: https://www.latimes.com/entertainmen...nap-story.html

The original photo was taken from the corner of 3rd, but I moved a bit closer so we could read the text on the Shatto 39 (BOWL) building.

Nope, HossC is correct. La Cienega is the street just left of center, it has two bends in it, just like it does now. At the top left(corner of La Cienega and 18th) is the Adohr Creamery(we've seen it here on NLA before. So the street to the left of the set is La Cienega, below it is Cadillac, above it is 18th and Venice cuts along the right corner.

I believe the keyhole bar doorway in post #54354 may have been located at 107 W. 4th Street downtown. It was destroyed fairly recently.

Well, Cassidy (Lurch) appears to have a squarer jaw. The "cop's" jaw is more pointed. So maybe not. On a related topic of tall monsters, Ed Gywnn who played "Frankenstein" on the Munsters had an interesting career. Car 54 Where are You? Mobster "Frenchie" in the Cotton Club movie. The southern judge in My Cousin Vinnie. Etc. Ed Gwynn, underrated actor. Finally, the dude who played Superman in the 1950s TV series always seemed to be out of shape. Never quite sold the fact he was the man of steel. Did he really do himself in, or is that just Hollywood myth? And Alfalfa getting shot in a dispute over hunting dogs--that is just depressing. I always thought Alfalfa & Spanky (or maybe Butch) would fight to death over Darla.

Wiki's bio of actor Cassidy says nothing about him being a Traffic Cop in LA. Plus that cop is much thinner in the face of any actor Cassidy photos. Maybe it is Cassidy but people wanted to hide the idea that he was an LA cop at one time.

The Java Lanes opened in 1958.

Java Lanes was the quintessential baby-boom recreation spot, and a constant flow of guests enjoyed the South Pacific-meets-Jet Age amenities of its coffee shop, dining room, banquet room, cocktail lounge, ballroom, billiard room, supervised nursery for the kiddies and thirty-two bowling lanes, with a top-notch pro shop.

It isn't Lurch, I have put this photo on a LAPD site asking if anybody knows who it is but drew a negative. I would say it is late 50's myself and those guys are older than heck and are not computer types or have passed away. He ius a traffic Officer and wearing white gloves so he is working P.I.C. which was traffic directing and parking control at that time.

I remembered that photo because the blond woman looking down in the center looks like the employee who's in charge of the bank deposit boxes in a film I like from 1956...The Man in the Vault. She's even wearing the same outfit, or nearly the same. I don't know the actress's name, it's not in the credits nor on IMDB.

Used to bowl there when I lived nearby (4th & Hobart, August 1977-August 1979). Also ate many times at the McDonald's (that was the closest one to where I lived until they opened one at Wilshire & Normandie shortly before I moved). Nice to see that they have remodeled it. Passed by that location many times on the old RTD 28 line going to and from school/work at USC (would change at Wilshire for the 95 to get to the campus)

I thought it might be a fun challange to try and figure out where this campus orchard was located by using the buildings as markers.

The trouble is, for me anyway, I don't know the buildings on UCLA's campus well enough to figure it out.

I'm pretty sure this is the same orchard from a different angle. The round cement culvert(s) appears in both.

When I saw the above picture I instantly knew the location. It looks like the orchard was where the sprawling UCLA Medical Center buildings are located now, at the northwest corner of Westwood and LeConte:

The original Anthony Hernandez photo is dated 1980 so right around your time there.
