The CDs of 1934, 1935 and 1936 have the Hillcrest Motor Co at 1401 Vine Street. I think this fits both the location and the number on the sign.

those were somewhat tricky. You had to put in just the right amount of ingredients, and then get them started quickly so they would all finish at about the same time and then take them off quickly so they did not overflow. and... you had to insert the metal sleeve in the top of the cup so the cup did not crush. You had to stand there and watch them so they did not get messed up and throw milkshake all over

Looking forward to the next batch, E_R!

I wanted to type some of those captions into a translator, but finding Russian/cyrillic companions to those letters was somewhat difficult.

But because I was trying to for a bit I came across an online post (in Russian) where someone posted around 75 Los Angeles photos, in color. When I come across so many photos like that it becomes a bit overwhelming and you first think none of them have been posted on NLA before and then you think they all have. So, I randomly selected 10 or 11 of the photos and put them in Google photo search one at a time to see if they came up on other sites. Most of them only appeared as showing up on the blog post. Under "Pages that include matching images" three of them showed up on one or two other sites that used the photo, but the date they used them was after this blog post first appeared around two years ago in 2017.

So, I don't know where these photos came from. There is an introductory paragraph and then the photos, but none of the photos are captioned, though some locations are well-known and some others have street signs in them.

I copied the Russian written introductory title and paragraph into a translator, and this is what I came up with as the translation:

Los Angeles Photos - 1950-60

Los Angeles - sounds like music/music to my ears, like angels singing... But with this name I have a lot of associations. "Chinatown", "L.A. Confidentiual", "Mulholland Drive", "Sunset Blvd."... and it is these things I think of when I look at these pictures.

There are no captions or sources where the photos came from. That I could understand anyway. I invite you all to check out the link and see what you think about any, most or all of them being seen on NLA before. (I am only absolutely sure that I saw two of these before.) Here's a scant few of the around 75 images that I liked and don't recall seeing before, but after ten years of photos posted on NLA, who can remember everything?

The following photo was posted on a twitter account just a couple weeks ago and identified it as Chavez Ravine!

Wow, thank you for that link, Martin Paul! That's really a fantastic group of photos!

I've only seen, maybe 1/10th of them before? Of course, some of you folks may have seen them all, but the majority of them are completely new to me...

At least some of those photos come from the Huntington Digital Library. For example, the Chavez Ravine photo is here.

Wasn't 'Harper', the 1966 detective movie from 'The Moving Target' by Ross MacDonald, starring Paul Newman, partially filmed there? It was on TCM a couple of weeks ago and it sure looks like it.
Sorry, I meant the "Moon Fire Temple" located in Topanga Canyon.

I, too..am impressed by Noir Noir's 'stylized' water tower.

It reminds me of the animation from UPA studio.

I have this strange feeling that you've had some experience with the Multimixer.

Here's another 'mystery' from the Russian photographs.

DESCRIPTION ON EBAY

HERE

Did neighborhoods have their own ice machines?

EBAY

At first, I doubted this was Los Angeles. I did a bit of googling and found the John Morrell Co. at 1335 Willow

LAPL

They sure did!

This one was in the middle of a parking lot near my home, was fully operational, and only got removed some time in the last ten years:

I've seen photographs like that but always presumed the ice machines were at a business. (say...behind a neighborhood market out of the frame of the photo)

I'll file this under: YOU LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY.
