PdV Tower B looks to be under construction, and I think that opened in 1968. No Portage Bridge (1973), but it looks like they're working on the Wellington/Parkway link. I've forgotten how there used to be an overpass at Booth where the War Museum now stands.

Oh yes, that raised section of the Parkway along the edge of Lebreton Flats was a particularly effective barrier, at the time, for keeping most people away from the river. Just like the rest of the NCC Parkway system continues to be today.

I wonder if the tunnel is still there...

Is it still open to the public? If so, where is it, how do we access it?

Another interesting thing, the downtown Freimans also had a grocery store, a Steinberg's.

Here's some of the former Ottawa locations:

Actually they weren't. But they had a location inside the Freiman's store.

Do we know what Tunney's Pasture used to look like before the federal campus was started up there?

The current YIG in Hazeldean Mall in Kanata was once a Steinberg as well; I remember it from the early 80s.

Looking for pics of Tunney's pre Federal Complex and found this; Bayview pre-expropriation. Had no idea the shoreline was altered that much.

Anyway, could not find anything n Tunney's, but I imagine it looked a lot like the anything 30 minutes outside of downtown Ottawa today.

Did they not think to paint lines on that parking lot? Seems like a bit of a free-for-all!

Looks like there are lines there, the people just choose not to park in them.

I think the lines are angled with each row angled the opposite way. You can see everybody is parking consistently in each row. I think this is a reflection of the large size of cars of the day and the lack of power steering. Angled parking made it a little easier to park.

I remember being there in about 1977 or 1978 when a middle-aged man got liquored up and drove his car into the bus stop just outside Sears. I was waiting in the parking lot when it happened. No one got killed but it was certainly a moment of pandemonium.

Steinberg's was an anchor tenant for Bayshore when it first opened, along with Eaton's and The Bay. A different era I guess. It used to be a good model to allow stay-at-home types to mix shopping and groceries in one visit.
