Here's a thought; I've been so used to seeing the core always a few floors above the perimeter and the crane extending even beyond the core. This tricks me into thinking that there's some sort of "setback" aesthetic. I'm afraid I'm going to be turned off by the abrupt "flat top" this building is about to get when construction is finished.
I would prefer the extension as well, but when the full tower is revealed, including the mechanical floors, it may make more sense that it doesn't.
