HSL is in front of City Council next week with their GPLET application for the Hotel Arizona renovation. The brand has changed to Hyatt, specifically Hyatt Regency.

I thought their GPLET application was approved months ago.

Tucson could get a new casino

Tucson could get a new casino if the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and the city reach an agreement — a first of its kind between the city and a tribe.

Tribal leaders want property they own in the city, near West Grant Road and Interstate 10, to be accepted into trust by the United States so they can build and operate a casino there.
I'd always wondered why this property - the old movie theater just east of I-10 - had sat undeveloped for so long.

A 4 story building has been proposed at the intersection of Stone and 14th. The corner that previous housed Casa Vicente. The building will be mixed use Business and Residential. No word yet whether Casa Vicente will be part of the new development.

Tucson City Council gives tentative OKs to Hotel Arizona deal and tribal casino plan

According to the Star, the city gave initial approval to the tax incentives that HSL asked for in order to reopen the Hotel Arizona as a 296 room Hyatt Regency. The tax abatement deal still needs to go through economic analysis before it can be formally approved.

The article also stated that "officials have declined to discuss plans" for the land next to the hotel that used to be the parking garage.

City Council also gave conditional approval to an agreement with the Pascua Yaqui Tribe to allow them open a casino at Grant and I-10 where the Century Park movie theater used to be. The tribe owns the land, but have to get the land put into a trust first, so that it can be considered part of their reservation. Other articles have suggested that this could be a multi-year process.

Bourn (presumably) is in front of the Historical Commission Plans Review Subcommittee tomorrow with renovations for the Indian Trading Post. The renderings look pretty similar to what we saw when City Park was first proposed, but good to see they're finally moving on this.

Anyone know what is going in on the west side of Oracle between Roger and Limberlost? It's right next to the Bank of America. I also noticed Burlington Coat Factory going into that plaza where Borders used to be.

Rio Nuevo restructured their incentive at the last board meeting. It is now broken into three parts: retail, parking and office. The office floors are now also going to be condo-ed. Pretty sure they are just trying to make the economic analysis required for these incentives pencil out. Building height remains at 12 stories.

So it is not going to be office space anymore? Retail, Parking, Condos?

No its still office. The floors of office however will be condoed so they are owned by a separate entity. Again, Im sure this is only being done to make the economics work.
