I've been waiting for years to see if this second tower would proceed, and I'm so happy to hear site prep might is somewhat imminent! This is an area that has long needed another building to accompany the One Rincon tower thats already there.

I drove by the site today and excavation is at least 30' deep. Moving right along

That's great to hear! I'm in the city every Friday, but this one is out of my walking route so I won't have any idea whats going on until its starts rising out of the ground. Thanks for your update

I had the exact same thought when looking at that last photo. In fact, that whole intersection will be dramatically different when 399 Fremont goes up. I can't wait!

Thanks for the photo updates. It's definitely going to feel like you're right in the city once the street is boxed in from all sides.

That lot is a really tight squeeze to construct a 500' tower. I wonder where they are staging all the construction equipment?

thanks for the photo. i am bit confused. on the right of the ramp will be rincon 2nd tower. whats the project on the left? if its another project, how tall will that be? thanks.

Not until they install something structural. ie pilings, foundation, etc. So far this has just been excavation. Don't worry, they will start pouring some concrete soon. If I remember correctly, tower one was a 10ft thick mat foundation. So the first pour should be a big one.

Soon, but the proper height (541') should be adjusted accordingly.

i very very seldom leave sf for other parts of the bay, but i spent some time in berkeley last week (the cars and heat reminding me why i don't bother with the place). anyway, coming into sf over the bridge, i think it was the first time that i've actually seen 1 rincon from the bay bridge (usually use bart or ferry). man, i'm ecstatic to see another tower go in there, but what a terrible shame that this magnificent gateway glass wall will be obscured up by a shorter building with that white mullion motif. something about how 1 rincon stands alone is just very very alluring to me.

that said, i guess if the effect is to be lost, we might as well cram as many towers into the area as possible.

It won't obscure tower one from the bridge vantage point because that will be offset to the north. That doesn't address it no longer standing alone, but at least you should be able to completely see tower one even after all the other Rincon towers go in.

What are the dimensions of that lot? Looks like half the size of tower 1.

Looking on Google maps, it looks like the same footprint. And as far as I know, that's what it's supposed to be. Perhaps it just looks smaller because of the existing building looming over one side?

A filled space always looks bigger than an unfilled one.

Just like an empty house seems smaller than one with furniture in it. Seems paradoxical but it's true.

You are right on. Saying that, it still looks like a small single family home lot....

That's why the Rincon towers are so cool; they take up little space at street level, but make up for that with height. Much less bulky-looking than most older FiDi buildings.
