Incredible...
It's a much healthier environment today, to be sure, but far more sterile.

Great transfomation, it remind me the transformation of the Northeastern Paris. (Even if it was never as bad as Harlem twenty years ago).
If I find picture i could make a similar thread.

But many modern buildings are too much sterile and very outdated.
An exemple here.

Looking at these pics, it reminds me of what will happen to parts of North Philly (especially around Temple University and Strawberry Mansion). It's going to completely change in the next ten years!!!

So yes, it can be done. There's plenty of fertile ground in US cities which could see similar changes. And if the price of gas continues its climb, I bet more sections of older cities will see folks moving back in and new development. Thanks for sharing your find.

Give it another twenty years and inner-cities around the world will be revitalized while sprawling auto oriented aglomorations degenerate. It's nice to see New York is getting ahead of the curve. Very impressive! Cool thread.

Nice to see some of this thread is still around. I miss that picture of 125th looking east from the EL though.

Appreciate it, especially since I've only seen his 'The New American Ghetto' .
