Different exits and entrances from the outside. The main concourse is situated a bit below, I believe.

I think he's asking why there are walkways inside the windows, in between two panes of glass. I'm curious too. Just circulation for some office space or something?

As MUCH as I love Grand Central Terminal (current) here is an equally great proposal for the same site for McKim Mead and White, but I'm fine with what got built. The McKim Mead and White proposal actually looks more like a train station than the current one, but I love both, and what got built was right, but is the shorter of the two great designs. Either this design on the bottom or the current building would inevitably be celebrating 100 years this month.

Where did those pictures go? I saw the other proposal and agree that it was so much better than the current design. This one is rather plain looking.

A white New York City police officer was cleared Wednesday in the chokehold death of an unarmed black man stopped on suspicion of selling loose, untaxed cigarettes — a case that sparked outrage and drew comparisons to the deadly police shooting in Ferguson, Missouri.

Protesters staged a die-in during rush hour at Grand Central Station in New York City in response to the grand jury's decision not to indict NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo, who was seen on a widely watched amateur video wrapping his arm around Garner's neck as the 43-year-old yelled, "I can't breathe!" during the July 17 confrontation.

The terminal is just over a 100 years old (will turn 102 in January), but judging by the "Die-In" protests the station has still yet to see it all.
