According to the Tempelhof-Area...

a new zoo is complete nonesense to me.
The Zoo in Berlin alredy presents the largest collection of species in the world and the Tierpark in Berlin already is the largest one in Europe so why should they build a new one.

What I've heard that far was:

1) some parts will become a new city park
2) an international building-exhibition will take place in some parts until 2020 or something
3) Hertha BSC is going to build a new stadium ( which is complete bullshit to me, Hertha BSC already owns the largest stadium in Europe... )
4) new apartements and offices

that's what the government itself has got to add:

the basic contents are...
the airport-buildings are going to stay...

Look at this photo of the Alex 1965, one can see the old buildings
South of the Alex which had survived the war only to be demolished for
the commy block building plans and the TV tower, a shame!

Some shots I took of Molkenmarkt and the nearby Nikolaiviertel!!

Aerial Photos from the tower!

Eprhaim Haus!

Litten Strasse!?

Parochial Kirche! They're going to add the tower back onto this church.

Quick Question:

Does anyone know if the U55 will finally be done anytime soon? And are they going to start on the the U5 extension? When do they need to start on it to lose the federal funds?

The U55 will open on August 2009. The Missing section Brandenburger Tor to Alexanderplatz is due to start construction in 2009/2010!

It appears that the Falkoniergasse project has been put back to first quarter 2010.

http://www.falkonier.de/

Alexanderplatz/ Alexanderstrasse south may start construction this year!

they've applied for planning permission or licenses?

Translation using google!

New building beside Alexa planned Tuesday, 3 February 2009 01:47 The Degewo sold a 5500 square meter large property to the Alexanderstraße. The contract with the investor was recorded in the past week, said a spokeswoman of the Wohnungsbaugesellschaft.

The business becomes however only valid if the investor receives necessary permission for his project. The surface lies on the southern part of the so-called banana area, beside the shopping centre Alexa. On two floors retail trade is intended, on the third catering trade. The new building is to have a floor area of 29,000 square meters.

The building preliminary inquiry is posed. According to Degewo to in the middle of March a positive answer is expected by the office for district. Then the building application is to follow. The offer is a meaningful addition of Alexa, said building town councillor Ephraim Gothe (SPD) in the town development committee of center. Gothe presented the draft for a development plan of the southern banana area.

There the Degewo wants to sell two further surfaces. The development plan is to permit that on one of the two surfaces a 65 meter high house can be established, if there are for it prospective customers. For this tower an architectural competition is to be written out.

Today ( February 8th, 2009) it is planned to demolish the 358.5 metres tall radio relay link mast in Berlin-Frohnau ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richtfu...Berlin-Frohnau ), which was used between 1978 and 1990 for radio relay links between Lower Saxony and former West-Berlin. The smaller tower will remain.

I'd go crazy if they're really going to build this beauty. This would be such a gain for Berlin's skyline.

I'm traveling to Berlin this summer, and will stay there for about 8 weeks. I'm curious as to what the best area of the city is (as far as eating-general cost- and living).
Also, I'm curious as to what the best Hostels are and what I should look out for as far as any problems that might arise, like having to pay extra for certain things.

*I'm a little confused as to what the general length of stay at a Hostel is. I've noticed that most of the webistes for the Hostels only have options usually only up to 30 days or so. I need at LEAST 60...is this too long for a Hostel? Should I be looking elsewhere?
