Last Tuesday they filed a permit request for water filled barriers to "protect pedestrians..." during "excavation... and construction". At least they are trying to go forward. I don't understand how utility issues became such a big hurdle - and I don't believe financing or anything else not related to utilities is causing the delay.

Was all of this unanticipated? I mean, how did this one even get approved in the first place? It appears that there are major utility issues in and around the site. Also, that manhole has been moved and it looks like the sewage piping has been installed, yet the site has been inactive as of late.

After multiple delays, construction on the building itself will begin in the next 60 days.

It sounds like ZaZa has some aggressive expansion plans with plans for 10 hotels in five years. But I only care what happens in the next 60 days.

I never doubted it for a second...okay, that's not entirely true. Great to see!

The Genral and I have the hypothesis that this crane is actually the one used for the Aloft Element Hotel. Head over to that thread and you'll see why. Interesting that Gables worked together with White Lodging to use ZaZa as a staging area. I guess that's all it's good for right now.

Seems like every hotel that's planned or just opened in the Austin area mentions about Hotel ZaZa opening up in the near future, so maybe there's a silver lining for this project. Though I still haven't gave up hope on this project. I remember that Houston Biz Journal stated a month ago was that "Hotel ZaZa expect to breakground in the next 60 days... " So let's wait and see if anything changes before the New Year begins.

This is a redesign or what? It looks to be shorter, but there is much to like about it. I especially like the street level retail and the way it appears to interact with 4th Street towards the rear of the block, although a close inspection of the rendering suggests a garage or driveway entrance near the Lavaca corner. I guess this is one of those situations where more will be revealed. I wish they would shoot straight with the public and keep us informed about this project.

I don't think the height has changed. This is a somewhat squat looking building because of its size...and it's "only" 305 feet. Fairly tall of course, but even in the area where it is it'll be surrounded by taller buildings. I really like this one. It's a good quality looking building, I think. And with so many cornices, I hope they're planning for some nice accent lighting. I actually think the design of this is a very good fit for the warehouse district with its nod to older architecture.

Agreed, I just hope they make sure and use the proper sound proofing unlike the Westin. Of course it won't be completely sound proof but obviously there are materials that dampen specific sound waves.

So some updated renderings but still no word on construction. Hopefully we will see something happen once we move into 2016.

It's lovely, and well-suited to its location. It has a classic look, like something you'd see in SF or Chicago. It's... urban. I don't know how else to put it. I really like how much it looks like something a *real* city would have, not as a centerpiece to ogle but rather as an anchor that gives you a sense of place (i.e., urban.)

I love this building, personally - perfect location, too, overlooking the park. I hope it happens.
