Thankyou Scaperdude. I guess it won't be long before we'll be able to put this one in an under construction thread. I'm also anxious for the next bit of progress on the 151 Tower and the announcements for the Convention Hotel Tower.

Very much agree TexasRE. Along with it's accompanying new Performing Arts Center, will make for a very welcome, elegant and vibrant addition to Old Main. Not sure if you noticed, but Boyer is also about to embark on an exciting new tower for State, and of course we're all anxious to see the design release of the upcoming Convention Center Hotel. Word is it will be the new tallest.

Right now they're working slowly but surely with the demolition of the Metro. It's a little more delicate work, as they are having to remove unexpected asbestos before it's complete takedown. Here's the most recent pic taken in the last couple of days by StevenF.

Too bad they value engineered the really great glass facade in the original rendering....now its just a decent glass box instead of something more special. oh well.

More than value engineering, it was the melding of styles with it's conjoined sibling, "The Performing Arts Center". The powers that be felt the former mix was awkward. While I liked the origingal Tower façade, I think the newer version is a better fit with the Performing Arts Center. Also, judging from past experience with this particular style of rendering, the final real life outcome should be significantly better than what we're seeing in this current bland rendering. The only compliment I would be able to pay this type of rendering, is that at least it doesn't falsely flatter us into having high expectations of what will be the final tower. With this style of rendering there's usually a sigh of relief when they start applying the actual curtain wall, followed by elation. Something like, "Wow, this things turning out much better than I thought it would."

If someone could please help my memory. What is this building currently being dismantled? What was its use?
