this is starting to look too monolithic to me. hoping the various elements at the top will give it back a properly balanced look

I agree.

It looks like the staggered window pattern in the renderings at the beginning of the thread isn’t showing as nicely IRL.

Hopefully, with the right light, those will pop a bit more and help add a visual break.

It looks fantastic in person. The angles look more prominent when you're on the same side of Van Ness.

timbad - agree with you. I did not like the architectual drawings & don't like it any better now. I walked by today & nearly took a picture of the glass area on the top. It is an obese presence. Something much better in the civic center would have been nice.

Reminds me of what 150 Van Ness used to look like, except in white.

I think this looks better than some have suggested when viewed in context:

I noted above that it looks good in person, and I don't understand the hate forumers seem to have for it.

I think the the main issue is that the glass is a lot darker than in the renderings, which creates too much contrast between the paneling, and in turn makes the windows look rather small (thus causing the prison comparison).

This building was always meant to be viewed at night time for performances overlooking a lit up City Hall. It will look great at night when its fully occupied. The day look is really meant to just blend in with the surrounding civic buildings.

It is often difficult to tell if something is going to look good or not during construction. For instance the ceilings in the penthouse will be done in wood that may be visible from the street at various times of day, not to mention all of the ground level treatment yet to come. The windows look larger-than-human size when compared to the workers.

At this point I think most of the work is on the inside. A few panels on the cornice missing but it looks finished on the outside.

Probably no hurry. They can't have live performances and I've been wondering even about classes. I doubt many of their students are around

^^This building has the coolest rooftop window washing equipment in town.

Looking forward to when it can really get into operation post-pandemic.

What does it mean when you're more interested in the pavers in sidewalk than the actual building? Is that a named condition?
