Yes. The site is next to it, just to the south I believe.

Some of those campers will likely migrate to more tolerant Vancouver.

I guess we'll see...the article mentions the group has plans to "set up again elsewhere", presumably again in the city centre area. If so, perhaps the city should again look to build more modular housing.

With whats going on at Strathcona Park I could see them flooding that area real quick. I think tent count there is 100+ now.

I really feel that the federal government should start entirely funding all homeless programs seeing how many in BC are from out of province.

Should not come out of pocket from the cities.

That’s the double edged sword of actually doing something companionate for the homeless. As soon as you build housing for those currently on the streets, other homeless from different cities and provinces hear of this and simply replace them.

Even better: some programs might help them move rather than solve the problem. I mean, can we get Saskatchewan's funding, if they're not going to use it?

Truth is, for every extra dollar spent on supporting the homeless, the homeless grow ever larger. It’s sort of like leaving ever greater quantities of bird feed in your backyard and then one day being surprised that 500 birds have shown up to get fed. Im no fan of our current Mayor, but disbanding the homeless organization was definitely a smart move.

Yeah, without a proper federal program it seems that no good deed goes unpunished regarding homelessness.

Why is this not being pushed harder as a federal election issue?

Why is this not an election issue??

I really would prefer the government to keep out of this issue. The only thing the government ever wants to do is build more shelters or “supports” for the homeless, whatever the hell that means. I would prefer the homeless and the drug addicted, revert back to normal life, not stay lifelong wards of the government, merrily terrorizing hardworking citizens who have to live amongst their midst.

New signage up on SFU this week. Adds a nice pop of colour.

I imagine those are LED channel letters, based on their size and depth. It would not make a whole lot of sense for them to install a non-illuminated sign of that size, especially in that locale.

Nice shot. The area is finally starting to take shape as a central downtown. Cool to see at night with all the light on the surrounding towers.

Yes the sign is lit at night, and quite visible from afar. Noticed it from across King George last night where just the roof and sign pops above other buildings.

I always liked neon signs and lighting in appropriate doses.

Saw a recent post on the Surrey subreddit page showing another proposal between University Dr/134A St and 105/105A Ave. 3 buildings with just over 1,000 units planned. Not sure if this development has been mentioned yet.

Link to post and picture below. Image size is too big to post here.

Hey, that's pretty cool! That site has been vacant for so long and it's just begging to be developed.

I remember before the '08 crisis that someone had bought and planned on building there. I seem to recall the buildings were gonna be kinda bulbous on one end, and that the modules were going to be precast off-site and assembled, rather than poured in place.
