Has anyone ever seen so many markings on a neighboring structure like this before? There are so many it almost looks like they consider them necessary for this project, as opposed to just being handy guides they thought they'd use because the wall happened to be there. I wonder if it has something to do with surveying being hampered by the adjacent building being so close, or something like that.

Its probably got to do with the fact that the adjacent building is one of the most architecturally and historically valuable structures on the planet. I imagine they are being deadly careful not to disturb the Auditorium Building less they cause settling or vibrations that damage the wonderful interior and pristine acoustics.
The base of this new building will contain classroom space, so I'm assuming those spaces will be tied into the Auditorium Building directly. If that's the case, then the wall probably needs to be marked so that the guys know where to knock out some bricks.

After looking at that document put out by Roosevelt, I'm even more excited about this project. Just imagine being a student and having one of those incredible dorm rooms with views to lake michigan

it's totally fine with me. the only reason i created the boom rundown thread years ago was because there were so many projects and proposals that having hundreds of individual threads seemed unnecessarily cumbersome, but now that we're in some pretty lean years, we can certainly go back to creating individual project threads without too much concern for cluttering up the forum.
