Has anyone been to Africa?

I've always wanted to visit, but I'm too young right now.

SO I was wondering if anyone on this website has been to SUB SAHARAN Africa before.

If you have:
What's it like?
If you've been to more than one country, how do they compare and contrast?
How is the urban living?
How is the STANDARD of living? I know many are developing countries..

Thanks for all that reply

I live in Johannesburg, South Africa and have traveled around Africa a bit, mainly in Kenya.

South Africa is urban and lively. It is like LA, but significantly more dirty and dangerous. There are very nice areas and very poor areas. Incredible country overall. Modern infrastructure and pretty reliable overall. I've enjoyed it.

Kenya, in particular, represents the rest of sub-saharan Africa. It is very dirty and crowded in the city and very remote and almost "tribal" in the rural areas. Interesting place, though.

From the southern hemisphere, does Omega Centauri the globular cluster really stand out to the naked eye in the dark sky or do you need binoculars? Does it look like a tiny cloud of light?

How about the Large and Small Magalenic Clouds?

South Africa is a great place to visit. Cape Town is a must visit for any world traveler.

I've been to Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, & South Africa. I can't imagine a more interesting, beautiful, exhilarating, and even at times, terrifying place on Earth. The people are wonderful, too. Go, go, go, go to Africa.

I'll be spending one full day in Alexandria, Egypt. They say it is more European than Middle Eastern. Alexander the Great founded this city in 336 bc. It is on the North Africa Mediterranean coast, and it's the 2nd largest city in Egypt.

Skyscrapercity has an excellent African section with nearly 100 people who live on the continent in over a dozen countries.

I'll be moving to Kigali, Rwanda in October to work at an orphanage for a year. Perhaps I'll be the first SSPer to post photos of the city.

Good for you! That will be an incredible experience for you and I look forward to your pics.
I'm going to Egypt in September, then on to Kenya and Tanzania.
I have been to southern Africa twice - Zimbabwe (we canoed down the Zambezi river), Namibia (Windhoek is a modern capital city with a big German influence), South Africa, and Botswana.

I went there twice myself. Crazy how things have gone since the civil war in the early 90's.

you should visit abuja its a purpose built city in nigeria for the rich. poverty is scarce there. you should also try lagos sure it has its bad parts but its has some really nice parts too like victoria island, ikoyi, lekki, and soon to be eko atlantic city.

yeah already in Egypt twice from Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel and Hurghada, it is a huge contrast of poverty, luxus resorts, ships and temples, but a most exotic nature panorama ever seen.

Also in port of Tanger Medina Marocco by ship
