The extension of what is currently the Stony Creek Branch to East Norrington would actually still be useful today. The use of the ex-PRR Fort Washington Branch to Glenside is equally interesting. People have proposed for the Chestnut Hill West to be integrated into the Broad Street Line, which could have translated into BSL service to Glenside. When it comes to the Delaware County Extension of the El, an extension to Havertown (or at least Llanerch) would also be relevant today.

It's a shame that the Warminster Line never had service extended to New Hope, however. Equally shameful is that service was scaled back from Newtown to Fox Chase, service was lost to Bethlehem and Allentown, and nobody thought to extend service at least as far as Pottstown.

Actually I think the Entire Stony Creek branch should be restored. And it should be bundled in with the Service Restoration to Quakertown..

- Looking to overhaul its flagging bus service, SEPTA seems to be seeking inspiration from Houston, which has drawn national attention with its own experiment in drastic bus-network redesign. Changes two years ago led to more frequent service on key routes, more direct routes, and more weekend service. The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, which oversees bus and light rail services in Houston, has reported improved on-time rates, fewer rider complaints, and a 7 percent rise in ridership with bus and light rail ridership combined.

- In Philadelphia, more commuters use buses than any other mode of public transportation, according to census data. Yet many riders aren’t happy. SEPTA had a 2.7 percent overall decrease in ridership on its bus and trolley routes from 2014 to 2016. Bus service is mired in lateness, with some busy lines late about 30 percent of the time or worse. SEPTA has turned to Jarrett Walker, the Portland, Ore., consultant who contributed to Houston’s redesign. SEPTA retained Walker’s consulting firm for $250,000 to evaluate the region’s bus system and recommend improvements. The results are due by the beginning of 2018.

American Airlines to begin new flights to cities in the Midwest and Texas

American Airlines announced Wednesday new flights between Philadelphia and four cities in the Midwest and Texas.

American will begin daily year-round service from PHL to San Antonio, Texas, on Feb. 15, followed by flights to Des Moines, Iowa; Madison, Wisc.; and Omaha, Neb., on May 4. The new flights will be available for booking Oct. 9.

Those stops look like a great extension of the El... but it's just the 14 bus.

LOL to the idiot who bought a home in KoP looking for a quiet, idyllic setting

The school teacher and his wife bought a home in King of Prussia, not far from the extension’s proposed route, specifically because they wanted a quiet, suburban lifestyle. Cowhey said he’s worried they might lose that

But who cares. This line is just a way for retailers to better import their cheap city labor. How many professionals will be ditching their cars for this? While traffic sucks, at least when you get to KoP, parking is free, unlike in the city. Even the article says, "the project would reduce traffic by about 0.3 percent." Seems like very little payoff for the billions the line will cost to build.

That money would be much better spent on extending the BSL to the Navy Yard or increasing regional rail service headways (every 30 min during peak time is a joke).

The modernization report is an absolute must read. The goal is more than just new modern rolling stock, SEPTA is planning to transform the trolley lines into a more efficient light rail system with proper level boarding platforms and stops at reduced proximity to speed service. Exciting stuff:
