Not quite the right effect, as the Corset Diagram is out of date, but it does give a bit of an idea.

I'm beginning to lose track of the exact number of 900 footers being proposed or built in Manhattan. I lost track of the number of supertalls a while ago.

About 10 900 footers and 30 supertalls completed / under construction / in preperation / approved / proposed.

It's simply unbelievable.

^ That, it is. People who think they've seen the best New York don't know what's coming.

j-biz captured the Culture Tower/Corset site today when he took photos through (over?) the 11th Ave viaduct. I've taken his original photo and snipped out the portion that shows the current condition of the site. AFAIK, the northern end of the Corset's foundation will rise from the Amtrak Gateway tunnel box excavation Tutor-Perini is working in the foreground. The photo is looking SSE. The Corset site continues under the Highline whose upper deck is just above the photo top. Both sides of the construction fence are Tutor-Perini controlled, but at the moment they are different projects.:

This building has submitted building permits, BTW.

Either that or there's some other 900 ft.+ building in the area permitted, because on DOB there's a residential tower right around here newly permitted over the last few days.

This is supposed to be the second tower to get underway, originally planned to rise along with the Coach, but the Coach tower obviously has the jump.

It looks like there has been work done on that concrete "pad" since the last picture (the one with the yellow generator) Is this for the Corset?

Not much work, just yellow generator has been removed. Concrete "pad" is for Culture Shed.

The Corset will rise where the red mobile crane is located. The Culture Shed is what's being built to the east.

As of May 12th, 2014...

It looks like it'll start construction soon?

This is one of the coolest buildings in NYC I think, such an awesome design.

Totally agree, it like squeezes the building together in the middle. Never seen a design like it.

Construction will not start until west side of the tunnel is completed.

I like that building as well, interesting engineering.

Will that be done by the end of this year?

Your guess is as good as mine. You might see some clues in the progress of the east end of the tunnel, which is further along (waterproofing, invert poured, etc.). Amtrak's Inspector general report from a few months ago also mentions that Amtrak is paying a REDACTED $$/month to the LIRR for the loss of the LIRR MoE buidling. So Amtrak is incentivized to get the tunnel finished, excavation backfilled & MoE bldg rebuilt & turned back over to the LIRR. I ASSUIME this incentive flows down to T-P...

You also can interpret frame_0006 (below) from a HY master-plan-construction .GIF for the relationship shown between the overbuild-platform-east-side/MoE building & the base of 15 HY/the Corset. The MoE bldg is mostly underneath the transparent overbuild, to the north of 10 HY:
