It's New Yorkers buying here, not Russians. The streetwall is maintained, in fact better than with the previous structures on the property.

And I don't see how this building in any way relates to Vancouver-style condo-on-podium towers.

What is truly amazing is that only a few years have passed since One57 was our focus of Central Park, now it's 432 Park.

Next up are several others.
The action is just getting started!

T'wasn't that long ago that Vancouverites were complaining about the Manhattanization of their city and now I see it's gone back the other way. The green glass in this building is too subtle to cut it in Vancouver though, in many pics you can't even tell it's green.

Anyone complaining about the streetwall needs to get real. That's something New York does better than anybody. But not all of our biggest and best skyscrapers are part of that obviously.

That is patently false. It has a disgusting windswept plaza and driveway on the 56th St side, and killed the entire corner of 56th and Park, a previously vibrant urban corner when the Drake was there.

Vinoly is such a banal and unimaginative hack. It wouldn't be a big deal, except that his arrogance is an aggression against Manhattan's urban street fabric.

NYGuy's dismissive comments implying streetwalls don't matter miss the mark. This is Manhattan. Build these boring plazas and driveways in Houston, not here.

^Wow, that reporter's hot. The building much less so, although it does give new meaning to the term "sliver", it's incredibly sleek but other than that, pretty much featureless. It's like the residential answer to the old WTC.

Oh how you miss the point completely. But live on in that world.

That white cube on Park Avvenue is simply horrific. Two and a half miles of urban gorgeousness, at least the equal of any stretch of pavement in any city in the world; and Vinoly/Maclowe plopped a big steaming crap on the corner of 56th street.

The tower works pretty well from a distance--as a much needed peak in the skyline and as a work of engineering. No architecture here. But seeing the beautiful Drake replace by a stunted white box and a massive blank wall is absolutely heartbreaking.
