kind of infuriating that the rolling stock like that is built in a place that doesnt have the infrastructure to run it (like st. louis was with the heavy rail cars, and streetcars after 1966).

Bombardier has offered to work with the city to develop an RT test line here, but so far it is just a concept. I think going into the future as more and more smaller cities look into building LRT, we'll eventually develop a system of our own. We have a pretty good layout, and a viable corridor if we can get CN Rail to give it up.

Ive been looking for an older network of the cable trams, but very hard to find (As there were some differing routes)

but I did come across this map of the track currently in the CBD

Swanston St is the world's busiest tram route (from the Arts Centre at the bottom of the map) to Melbourne University - #1, #3 (and 3a), #5, #6, #8, #16, #64, #67 and #72 - each route runs on anywhere from 8-12 minute off peak frequencies, about 6-8 minutes in peak so there's an insance frequency on that 2km stretch. The link between Swanston St and Elizabeth St does not have regular services, primarily used for transferring rolling stock between the two segments.

(note lack of grand union junctions)

That Victorian confection of a main train station looks pretty good, too. Is it still around?

This map shows Charlotte's original streetcar map. The purple was the original streetcar lines and the orange is an original streetcar line that is being rebuilt with new rolling stock.

Montreal first started their subway system early on but it grew fast. Started on the green line near downtown and now it's become this big,

Possibly the most coolest and most depressing thread I have seen on SSP.

Really makes you think "if only".

Vid, though I don't remember when the trolley buses were decomissioned in FW/PA I still remember riding the Mainline before they removed all the overhead lines. Man I'm way too old!!!

Here are the old Tokyo trolley lines:

(Wikipedia)

Only one (!) of these lines is left, but all of the locations covered by the routes that were scrapped are now covered by subways (sometimes following mostly the same route as the trolleys), so it is no loss as far as transit availability is concerned.

Yes thank you! You must have spent an unimaginable amount of time on it, but I have really enjoyed at looking at the map. I would have credited you if I could even remember where I got the file, but I tend to forget website addresses when it's been over a year since I was on it.

This is a screengrab of a Google maps composite of Dallas' historical streetcar system...

Full map...
https://www.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...da882a2f7e7baa

Here's an old map...

http://forum.dallasmetropolis.com/sh...-History/page2

I can't put a date on that map but it looks like it shows the Trinity River before it's course was changed which was done in the early 1900s. It also shows the Northern city limits to be around present day Skillman or in that general area which seems almost silly. I would put that map from before 1910 if not a lot earlier.

Some pics, the first from 1890 when the first electric trollys started to 1951 in the last pic...

This update includes the Vancouver street railway of the B.C.E.R. that has many dozens of new photos and the Peterborough and Ashburnham Street Railway/Peterborough Radial Railway. New additions include the Lakefield Interurban of the Peterborough Radial Railway and the Edison/Canadian General Electric test track in Peterborough. Anyone who is aware of photos online or elsewhere for the Peterborough system is encouraged to alert the author.

Please visit the updates page for an overview of this release.

The next update will include the Montreal street system as well as the Nipissing Central Railway.
