I wish the head people would get rid of the massive centralized parking structures that crowd the center. That space can be better used for something else....centralized terminal/screening area and etc. people mover can link people to parking structures on the outside of the airport. traffic in the loop would decrease a LOT.

Getting LAX back to global prestige will take more than some new coats of paint, new furniture and a people mover. Its come a LONG ways but has anyone ever picked up anyone there and drive around the loop to see how dark it is ? because of the overhang road and parking structures, sun light is almost non existent on the lower level. Some family of mine pointed this out when they flew in for the holidays.

Its sad that on that list that LAX didn't even beat JFK. shows what shape its in. But don't get me wrong. The progress that has been made is awesome. Needs to continue times 10.

Japan Airlines is launching service between LAX and Osaka starting March 20, 2015.

Avianca is resuming service between LAX and Bogota starting June 13, 2015.

It just didn't feel right not having non-stop service to those cities.

There was an update on SSC a while back showing the full airport master plan. Massive amounts of parking is being added at the opposite end of the people mover and next to the expo line...... does this mean... and I'm wishing here.... that the parking in the center is being taken out ? because the parking being added is a lot.

As globally connected as LAX is, its always killed me how many flights to Latin America require transfers/stops through either Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, Mexico City, or Panama City. Direct flights to seemingly obvious places are exceptions rather than the rule. Buenos Aires, Bogota, San Jose, etc.

^ Well, if you take a look at a map of the Western Hemisphere, Los Angeles isn't that close to Latin America. Even New York is slightly closer to the capitals of Central America. That being said, there's at least one non-stop flight to most of the major Latin American cities. I think Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro are both long shots, but there are two airlines (Korean and American) that offer non-stop service to Sao Paulo.

LAX is pretty much as globally connected as it's going to get. We're very well connected with the "Big Four" of New York, London, Tokyo, and Paris. But we're never going to see direct flights to, say, Nice or Venice. Our bread and butter, if you will, is the easy access we have to Canada, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Oceania, and East/Southeast Asia -- all great destinations. And speaking of which, Air China announced yesterday that they'll be adding a third daily flight to Beijing and relocating to TBIT from dumpy Terminal 2.

Air China to Add Third Daily L.A.-Beijing Flight

Air China to Add Third Daily L.A.-Beijing Flight

By CAROL LAWRENCE
Thursday, February 19, 2015
Los Angeles Business Journal

"Beijing airline Air China Ltd. will increase its nonstop service between Beijing and Los Angeles by adding a third daily nonstop flight each way, airline representatives announced Thursday.

Air China now operates at least two daily flights, each way, between Beijing and LAX. Starting May 2, it will add a third set of flights four days a week. It will have three daily flights in both directions starting July 1. Air China is the only airline operating nonstop flights between LAX and Beijing..."

True. But considering the sizable populations of Central/South American immigrants here as well as the simple fact that we're an enormous world metro, it's still pretty surprising. The sheer number of white families that want to take Skyler and Mackenzie on eco-tourism trips to the zip lines in Costa Rica ought to be enough to justify nonstop flights to some of these places.

^ Our Latino population is predominantly Mexican, Salvadoran, and Guatemalan. LAX is the top international destination out of the airports in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and San Salvador; LAX is a top 3 American destination (as of 2009) out of Guatemala City, with Miami and Houston slightly ahead.

There ARE nonstop flights from LAX to pretty much every major city in Central America (including both San Jose and Liberia in Costa Rica). And Avianca is bringing back nonstop LAX to Bogota in June of this year (with the 787).

^ Also, Delta is launching seasonal service to Managua (the capital of Nicaragua) in June.

Here are some interesting visuals of the eventual people mover and Midfield Satellite Concourse from LAWA's most recent photo update. For photos of the ongoing renovations to the domestic terminals, click on the link.

Thank you for the renderings. A heads up if you're traveling via LAX over the next couple of months-- the airport is going to be doing a lot of runway construction to be compliant with the Runway Safety Area requirements, so there could be more flight delays. Make sure you have a good book or that your I-Pad is fully charged.

Assuming it is determined that it isn't a hazard to air navigation, that consolidated rental car facility should be completely covered with solar panels.

Well, looks like they are considering extending the APM to the new concourse they are building.

^ It's not an extension, but a separate one altogether. There isn't a way to seamlessly fuse the two together if the CTA people mover is elevated.

There was also mention today that AeroMexico will begin flying a 787 four times per week between LAX - Mexico CitY.
