He'll just make excuses, keep doubting, or say something passive aggressive like "I'm surprised they're actually going through with it".

The reason this is moving so slowly is that Manchester has not secured permanent financing for the project yet. Its the reason they have not released a revised timetable. They definitely want to build it and they keep releasing tidbits of news to keep their name in the paper and hopefully attract investment. The site work they are doing is just to keep the ball inching forward while they work on landing some money.

How did you know I was at work and pretty stiff just then?

Hey look, when this thing gets built, I'm sure all of us will be happy. It's not that you didn't have reason to be cautious about whether this gets built - it's obviously had fits and starts galore. I think you've earned yourself the cranky curmudgeon title on this forum - because you seemed to take such delight in sharing your pessimistic outlook. Let's put that behind us now. And…if and when you stay there, I'll be happy for you.

I think they did secure financing.

I hope you are right, but they have not provided any details. It does not cost much to put up some sexy signs and a few portable toilets. I don't mean to sound like Spaceman. I really want this thing built. I just don't trust developers, and I have been around long enough to have seen more than a few similar signs announcing projects simply fade away in the weather without any project actually getting built.

The new sign at the site says it's opening in the Fall of 2017. The Statesman article about Hunt being hired and the builder says it will take 32 months to build.
If a sign and a quote in the Statesman are to be believed, and with Fall being any time between September and December, we are looking at a January to April 2015 start date.
That's a year away, so something doesn't add up. It doesn't seem like they would forgo what would be some pretty decent parking revenue during that time.

hmmm, maybe they have recently made a deal with a financier and will announce it soon. Im a bit surprised that they would go ahead and put up a sign now without some sort of financial guarantee that it will happen.
