Awesome, i saw work going on in that white building but wasn't sure if it was just general maintenance or if they signed a tenant. Their existing space should lease fast.

Very exciting- it's going to be more like a small department store than the other location and will have something like ten times the floor space- it'll sell clothes and records (!) and there'll be a cafe in there too. Can't wait for this- opening hoped for in August, they've done tonnes of interior work per the manager I spoke to.

I think a Loblaws (along the same caliber of the one at Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, which is pretty swish) would be a great addition to one of the floors of the space at Chinook. I am probably wishfully thinking though.

As for the other locations in the city, I would have no opinions though. I hear Goodlife, Canadian Tire, and Walmart are hoping to pick up some of the spaces across the country.
Retail Insider has suggested that the Chinook Target might be a potential location for a Saks expansion http://www.retail-insider.com/retail-insider/2015/6/cf

Makes sense as Chinook is really going for that higher end market.

Can Chinook have Saks without affecting Nordstroms and the Bay?

The parking lot at the new Save on Foods on Macleod is terrible. For some reason, they have 4 foot high walls every 10 or so stalls which obviously makes it very difficult to drive around corners. I foresee many fender benders there.

Not to mention small. I get that there is an underground parkade too, but the surface lot seems quite cramped.

My wife went shopping there last week, and she said the store itself is actually quite disappointing as well. She went to University in Lethbridge and shopped almost exclusively at the Save on there, but said the ones in Calgary really don't even compare. Pricewise she said it fits somewhere between Safeway/Sobeys and Co-op in terms of price, not between Safeway and Superstore where she was expecting it. Things that were regular price around $10 at Safeway were $13 regular and on sale for $11 at Save On. I've only been into the one in Walden but really wasn't too impressed either but I was running in only to grab some snacks for a road trip so wasn't looking around much.

Hudson's Bay owns Saks, so it's advantageous as for them as they don't have to directly compete on the high end side of things with Nordstrom. So they can essentially segregate their business.

It would be a boon to Chinook to have another high end retailer.

I saw a public notice for a land use change for a liquor store at 134 11th Ave SE. I was told a while back that Coop Liquor was coming to Victoria Park on 1st street SE somewhere, I wonder if this is it.

Not sure a new coop liquor store just opened in the west end.

Random but there's a new sushi resto opening north side of keynote believe it's around the same address as above.

The renovation of the former TD on 17th Ave and 9A St SW has been going at a blistering pace- much, much faster than MRV (I know it's much smaller structure but still). Two new retail bays built into the west side. It looks really good IMHO.

It's pretty much been almost a year since the new building on 17th Ave and 4th street has been done and none of the spaces have been leased yet. Maybe they should just demolish it and start over again with something better and more mixed use.

So bizarre, with 1.2 million people do we actually have too much street retail CRUs per our population compared to other cities?

Speaking of Target, does anyone know what's replacing the Target at Market Mall?

I recently renovated 2 bathrooms and the selection and price at Lowe's beats just about everything else I found. The only problem is that they are all on the City's east side. The southwest could use a better DIY store, and the Rona there doesn't count.

Makes complete sense to be located in Cross Iron, as the article is referring to the "Off Fifth" outlet branch of Saks.

The Off Fifth branch is much like Nordstrom Rack. So you will have a number of the designer brands associated with Saks at a discount price. It's an interesting approach to get into the market. I have always found Off Fifth to be quite pricey even at the discount rates. But it's still going to garner a lot to attention.
