Great thread! I'm always impressed with the diversity and quality of St. Louis' residential architecture.

giovanni-- you really should plan another trip and let us take you around. I know you were here briefly a couple years ago, but I think you may have missed a lot of the good stuff!

Expat,

My parents first lived in those apartment buildings where you grew up, back in the early 70's. That's such a great set of buildings, and a great block (the north side of the street, at least).
When I was born, we moved down to the 4400 block of Laclede, but I always would cut by those apartments from Kensington Court on my walks.

Great pictures!

To be clear, I didn't grow up on that block, but lived there during my 20s. Happy years. Funny thing, I consider that corner as 'home' more than anyplace I have ever lived. If a magic genie offered me the chance to live any place in the world, I would choose the corner of Euclid & Laclede. I have loved living in KC, DC, Boston & other places. But, that corner is home to me. It is almost like a spiritual thing for me. I wonder if they will let me pour my ashes in front of the Majestic Cafe?

Thanks to everyone for their great comments. It is fun to read so many comments of people appreciating one of America's treasures, St. Louis.

Randomness...

This house looks almost identical to my old house. I miss it every day:

For those not lucky enough to be from St. Louis, this is the John Cook School of Business at Saint Louis University. The tall part, and everything to the left of it was built around the turn of the 20th century; everything to the right of it was built in 2000. They did a really nice job!:

I love the balcony/storefront addition on this one:

Where is this? I really want to see these buildings renovated!:

These aren't bad for 1980s condos. I've always kind of liked the area around St. Joseph's - the townhouses that face the plaza are pretty cool:

DeB- I would miss that house, too. I had no idea the SLU building was part old and part new. They did a great job. The abandoned buildings are just north of Benton Park, which surprised me because that areas is basically in good shape & rather popular. I figure there must be a story of why those buildings are like that. Eccentric owner, probate, or who knows? I have always liked the Castle townhouses and the other townhouses around St. Joseph Plaza. I wish they would do more in that area.

Southwest St. Louis -- where you can work on your roof without even climbing a ladder.
