Some interesting news on the Streetcar. It mention we might see some testing end of May. Also curious if the Beam and Tempe Depot go in at the same time which parking lots for construction/storage will be used. I will miss Maycos. I had a lot of fond memories there even though it slowed down to a crawl near the end. I will miss driving by and seeing the Caboses? I always thought they would be cool tiny homes or mini offices.

Speaking of Pier, they’re just starting formwork on the 8th floor & just added a concrete pump to the building. It’s moving along quite quickly at this point. I think it’s 24 stories?

Because you're right, the permits are issued for demo and building The Beam. And their website has an updated brochure with a timeline that shows construction beginning now:

Either would have been cool, but I'm probably more excited about the Beam with the cross laminated timber construction.
I was told by someone in the industry that The Beam will act as the eventual HQ for Mortenson (the builder). I figured it got canned due to the rise in lumber costs, but am really excited to see such a unique product move forward.

Time marches on. I had some fond memories of Macayo's Depot Cantina from my time at ASU and later going to ASU games after college. Overall, didn't really care that much about it, but it's a place I'll miss. I knew I should have gone on a huge photo taking adventure over the whole of Tempe/ASU when I graduated all those years ago. I thought it would be a good idea to document "how it was" to be able to look back (like now) on the City and campus for nostalgia sake. It was a great idea actually considering all of the growth and changes, but I never did it.

I drove by "The Beam" yesterday and the lot is already scrapped and graded. Seems like they are moving fast now.

Dorsey Road extension?

With the new Novus complex announcement next to the APS land, and The Pier project, anyone know when Dorsey Road might connect from University to Rio Salado Pkwy?

Phoenix developer buys Tempe office building, plans $14 million renovation

Quote:
Phoenix developer George Oliver, which has completed several high-profile adaptive reuse office projects around the Valley, bought Hayden Station in downtown Tempe and is planning a $14 million transformation.

George Oliver bought the property, which includes one, 5-story office building and four, 2-story mixed-use buildings from Bob Parsons’ Yam Properties for $26.15 million, according to real estate database Vizzda. Steve Lindley of Cushman & Wakefield represented the seller in the deal. The buildings at the southwest corner of Mill Avenue and Third Street total 107,508 square feet.

They've been actively clearing way for it since they started clearing the land. Last time I checked it was being graveled. I'll see if they've paved it all the way this weekend if I get a chance.

Culdesac development

It's not a skyscraper or a tall building of course, but does anyone have any idea when they're gonna begin construction?

It was never approved so it's probably dead.

This article came out about 4 months ago. I wasn’t aware of this development going up in front of the Tempe Market Place.

Does that mean it was disapproved by the city, or simply that approval has not yet been requested? I haven't been keeping track of the details, but I am concerned that this project may be housing vaporware.

It's officially "in review for building entitlements" but the last official action was December 2019. It's gone stale, and projects rarely come out of that especially after so long.
