Logan Circle, DC

If you look at a map of Washington and locate Dupont Circle, Logan Circle is its mirror opposite east of the 16th Street divide. Though the same distance from the White House and closer to the Capitol, Logan Circle and its surrounding neighborhood has been out of the way of the ever Northwesterly march of downtown’s expansion, and so has retained a lower density and more residential character than Dupont... though the recent wave of condo building has had a major effect, so that today the neighborhood can be characterized by grand 19th Century rowhouses and chic 21st Century condos. Not a whole lot from the 20th, one way or another.

The circle itself is nice, but when compared to Dupont, provides proof that fountains do a lot more for interactive ambiance than statues… even really good statues.

I would mark this diagonal street - Massachusetts Avenue - as the boundary between Logan Circle neighborhood and downtown.

My old stomping grounds. The recent transformation of this area is just amazing. Used to be that on a Friday night, the prostitutes swarmed around this area by the dozens.

Love the pics. As far as the infill, from a modern perpsective I love it. Just check out that streetscape.

Also, a lot of them fit very well with the older buildings.

If anything, they should have changed up the design for this block.

While we're on the subject of D.C. circles

What perfect timing for this thread to come along. I have an urban design crit on Sat. morn. on DuPont Circle and basically I'm going to say that Dupont Circle is significant because the circle represents border between downtown and the surrounding residential neighborhood. Basically, while DuPont Circle is a node, it is also a landmark that gives the adjacent nieghborhood it's identity; a neighborhood that happens to be one of the most posh in D.C. I plan to also compare DuPont Circle to Rittenhouse Square.
Are my assertions correct?
Does anyone have any insight? Anything I overlooked?
Any help is appreciated.

Great pictures by the way

What a great looking hood. The Infill is pretty nice for the most part especially considering what I remember the hood to be like...

Your assertions are correct.

One thing though: No locals capitalize the P anymore. Dupont, not DuPont.

Very nice. I hope to get back to DC sooner that later, but at least after winter.

How do you know they weren't just fashionable young gals enjoying life?

Hero pegged it right. Big transformation in the last decade. Great tour Cirrus. It is a great urban residential area near the CBD. I like the time of year for the pics too. Thanks.
