I am wondering if Corpus Christi were once severely damaged by a huge storm or Hurricane in its history?

Yup, I think they're used to hear the spanish accent, but a French Canadian accent? I think that must be a rare thing down there.

Very nice!! I had the opportunity to drive through CC on the way to South Padre Island back in 89!! I always remembered those odd skyscrapers that apparently were just built.

Thank you! Driving through Corpus Christi was quite the experience for me ; it was the first time I could see the Gulf of Mexico aswell as a huge number of palm trees!

I like Corpus and think it has potential. People hate on it because it's kind of sleepy and hasn't grown much.

What is the water at the beach like? I am aware that all the beaches west of the Mississippi have dirty brown water but it improves a bit at Corpus Christi. Is the water warm?

Any beach that's actually in Corpus is facing Corpus Christi Bay, not the Gulf, and as such is not really worth mentioning. 30 minutes south of the city, on the other hand, is North Padre Island. A little bit further is the Padre Island National Seashore. The beaches and dunes are gorgeous and the water is usually dark blue and pretty warm. Compared to the Pacific in California, it's downright toasty.

I have touched the water and it looked rather warm, I can't tell exactly how much but certainly at 70 F. and above.

I wanted to explore the Padre Island a bit more when I was there and unfortunately, I ran out of time but at least, I took the ferry in Port Aransas for a more exciting trip on my way back to San Marcos where I stayed

Is there a difference between Padre Island and Mustang Island?

They are both Gulf Coast barrier islands, and as such are similar in terms of surf and beaches. I've only been to Mustang Island once, and I'm embarrassed to admit how long ago that was. North Padre has the Padre Island National Seashore starting, I think, about 10 miles south of the causeway to Corpus. Basically 70 miles of completely undeveloped beach and wilderness area, administered by the National Park Service. South Padre is a whole different story, with hotels and resorts and nightlife and tons of students during Spring Break.
